Pokémon Sword & Shield How To Find & Evolve Ghastly Into Gengar

Gengar is the signature mascot of the ghost-type Pokémon species. His evolution line, consisting of Ghastly and Haunter, was the original ghostly trio before any others came to exist. To this day, the line continues to be a fan favorite, and paves the way for spooky designs in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Location, How To Evolve, and Dynamaxing

Ghastly can typically be found wandering all over the wild areas. This makes sense considering Galar’s big population of otherworldly supernatural Pokémon . The areas they inhabit are Giant’s Seat, Hammerlocke Hills, North Lake Miloch, and the Watchtower Runs. Ghastly prefer to come out mostly during overcast weather or intense sun, so you’ll want to double check your map for the forecast before going to catch one.

This Pokémon becomes a Haunter at level twenty five, but that’s the easy part. If you want to get it to its last stage, you’ll unfortunately have to find someone to do a trade and then trade-back with you, as Haunter requires that process to become a Gengar. Haunter has pretty good stats that make him useable without a need to evolve, so no harm in skipping if you don’t have a Switch Online subscription. Gengar can be found in raid dens in South Lake Miloch, Stony Wilderness and Giant’s Mirror should you want to get a step ahead. Do note however, that Gengar’s special gigantamax form is exclusive to Shield, specifically only in the dens in Stone Wilderness.

How To Use Gengar

You’ll want to maximize Gengar’s abilities as a poison-type just as much as you do his ghostly powers. Poison-types are extremely underrated, yet are some of the most capable battlers to have in your team rotation. Therefore teaching Gengar Poison Jab is a must. Another suggestion would be Sludge Wave, which is a special attack you can purchase from a trader for 5,000 watts. For ghost moves, Shadow Ball and Phantom Force should carry you. Phantom Force can be found in the Slumbering Weald, and Gengar can learn Shadow Ball at level 48.
