Pokémon Sword & Shield How To Get A Dragapult

Dragapult is a Ghost-Dragon-type pseudo-legendary from Pokémon’s eighth generation and is easily one of the strongest Pokémon that you can obtain in Pokémon Sword & Shield. Like Dragonite, Tyranitar, and Salamence before it, Dragapult is guaranteed to give your team a serious bump in strength, but obtaining one can be a bit more complicated than you might think.

If you’re patient and enjoy max raids, you can obtain a Dragapult through max raid battles that can be found at Axew’s Eye and Rolling Field within the Wild Area. You can also encounter its earlier evolved forms, Dreepy and Drakloak, in max raid battles as well. Dragapult has a 5% chance of appearing within max raids in those areas, while Dreepy and Drakloak have a 10% chance.

Catching Dreepy And Drakloak In The Wild

If you’re a traditional Pokémon trainer, and would rather catch one in the wild, you’ll need to follow a few more specific steps. Firstly, you’ll need to head to Lake of Outrage within the Wild Area, where Dreepy and Drakloak can be found on a plot of land within the lake. In order to reach that plot of land, you’ll need to have obtained the water bike Route 9.

Secondly, there needs to be a thunderstorm. You can change the weather to a thunderstorm by heading into the settings on your Nintendo Switch, and changing the date to November 20th, 2020. This will create a storm within the game, which will allow Dreepy and Drakloak to spawn. Don’t worry, you can easily change the date back once you’re finished.

Levels And Required Gym Badges

While it’s storming, you have a 2% chance of encountering a Dreepy between levels 50-52 through random encounters in the grass. This means that it won’t be wandering around in the world. You also must have at least six gym badges, otherwise the game won’t allow you to catch Pokémon above level 50.

You can also obtain Dreepy’s evolved form, Drakloak during the storm, as it has a 2% chance of appearing in the world. Drakloak spawns between levels 55-58. This means that you’ll need at least 7 gym badges to catch one at 55, and all 8 badges if you want to catch one at 57 or 58. Drarkloak will then evolve into Dragapult at level 60.

As you can probably tell, obtaining a Dragapult is not an easy task. If you do decide to take the time to add one to your collection though, it will certainly be worth it. The Pokémon’s Dragon-Ghost-typing makes it a unique powerhouse in the world of competitive battling, and Dragapult certainly has one of the best designs of any Pokémon.
