Pokémon Sword & Shield Players Are Receiving Unobtainable Pokémon In Their Games

Back when Pokémon Sword & Shield were initially announced, information was revealed that not all Pokémon would be making their way into the games. A few months after the games released, Game Freak announced an Expansion Pass that would add additional content to the games, part of which would be Pokémon from previous games and generations. However, that seems to have come earlier then expected.

In a recent turn of events, various Pokémon Sword & Shield players have reported that they managed to get unobtainable Pokémon via Surprise Trades and Raids. Most of the information comes from various Reddit posts (some of which have been deleted). In the posts, users are showing screenshots of some of the unobtainable Pokémon, wondering what happened and how they managed to get the Pokémon.

One possible (and perhaps the biggest) explanation is that the Pokémon have already been coded into the games, but hackers managed to break the codes and release the Pokémon into their games. As a result from that, some of those Pokémon have been bred and given to other people through Surprise Trades, while those that cannot be bred were initiated via Raids. Nonetheless, such actions can be seen as illegal and it’s best to avoid Surprise Trades and Raids for the time being, especially if The Pokémon Company will do something about this.

This isn’t the first time missing Pokémon have been added into Pokémon Sword & Shield. Shortly after the games released, a modder was able to add some of the missing Pokémon into their game, thus demonstrating that it is totally possible to have way more Pokémon in Pokémon Sword & Shield than originally thought.

With Pokémon HOME set to release later in the month, trading Pokémon not native to Pokémon Sword & Shield will soon be possible. Players will soon have the ability to import Pokémon from past games into their copies of Pokémon Sword & Shield and trade with others. But before the feature releases, all of the Pokémon that players have recently been getting were obtained through illegitimate means, and that it is best to wait just to be on the safer side.
