Pokémon Sword & Shield Players Can Get Shiny Zeraora Now

A recent update to Pokémon Sword and Shield is helping players catch a legitimate, shiny Zeraora.

Following the release of the Isle of Armor expansion, the Pokémon company issued a challenge to Pokémon trainers around the globe. If one million players could come together and defeat a Zeraora found in a raid den, all Pokémon trainers would be rewarded with a shiny Zeraora. The community was able to achieve this milestone, with fans of all ages rejoicing.

In order to claim a free, shiny Zeraora, players must deposit one of their Pokémon to Pokémon HOME. Alternatively, a Pokémon can be transferred from a player’s Pokémon HOME account to their copy of Pokémon Sword or Shield. This action must be completed before July 6, 2020, at 4:59 p.m. PDT. The reward will be deposited into players’ Pokémon HOME accounts.

This is the first time that players have been able to obtain Zeraora’s shiny form without the use of external game modifications. Zeraora is a mythical Pokémon, meaning that it is only obtainable through special events such as this one. In the past, these events have been shiny-locked, meaning that the electric cat could only appear in its normal color scheme.

It is always nice to see people rallying together around a common goal, and a shiny Pokémon is a great incentive for people to work together. However, one of the defining qualities of shiny Pokémon used to be that they were incredibly rare and could only be obtained through ridiculous luck or extreme dedication.

In recent years, it has become much less difficult for trainers to track down shiny versions of their favorite Pokémon. Because they are much more common, their inherent value has gone down slightly. However, I still think that these recolors are cool, and the marketplace for shiny Pokémon should not discourage you from finding joy in owning a unique version of your favorite pocket monster.

Remember that this is a limited time event. Players must access and interact with their Pokémon HOME account before July 6, less than a week away. This might be the only time that players will ever be able to obtain a legitimate, non-hacked shiny Zeraora, so make sure to take the opportunity it’s too late.
