Pokémon Sword & Shield The Cramorant Robot Explained

For many years, Pokémon players have wondered if and when we’ll ever get an open world core game. That wish was partially answered when it was announced that Pokémon Sword and Shield would be getting not one but two paid DLCs that add new ecosystems to the game world. A recent trailer revealed tons of new goodies coming to Isle of Armor, the first DLC for Sword and Shield, in just under two weeks.

Besides the flashy new Legendaries and Gigantamax forms, one other thing stuck out – a robot resembling Cramorant, the bird Pokémon introduced in Galar that swallows and spits out like fish like bullets. Players were left scratching their heads and wondering what in the world this contraption was. Known as the Cram-O-Matic, think of it as Galar taking the initiative to participate in recycling.

Now You Have An Item Creator

Trainers can put up to four items into the machine and it will spit out a random item for them. Nintendo hinted that certain combinations can definitely make special items, though the details of such algorithms is still unknown. This is a fantastic chance for players to mess around with different combinations to see just what the robot renders. Perhaps it will offer brand new items altogether, or classic rare ones. For your convenience, the Cram-O-Matic will be located right inside the Dojo that seems to be the central hub of the DLC’s in-game adventures.

Don’t Throw Anything Away Yet

Players now finally have a method to dispose of unwanted material taking up space in their bag. Sure you can sell things, but not all in game items have a high enough value that they’re truly worth just offering to shops. Plus, now with Watts introduced in Sword and Shield as an additional currency, the regular dollars just don’t seem to be as valuable except for purchasing the standard Pokémon trainer needs. We’ve all been there, you have more fire stones than you know what to do with, or an item related to a specific Pokémon you don’t want. Someone who has no plans to raise an Applin isn’t going to have use for the Sweet Apple required to evolve it into Appletun. Now you can repurpose all that thanks to Game Freak introducing this mechanism.

Pokémon Sword and Pokemon Shield are available now for the Nintendo Switch. Isle of Armor releases on June 17 and the next DLC, The Crown Tundra will launch in the fall, with a date to be announced later.
