The Pokémon TCG: Sword & Shield – Evolving Skies expansion will focus on a collection of Dragon-type Pokémon and a set of revamped Eeveelution cards. While some of Evolving Skies’ powerful V and VMAX cards have already been confirmed, more can be speculated based on the Pokémon TCG expansion’s Japanese equivalent collections.

The equivalent to Evolving Skies’ main content released in two separate collections in Japan in early July 2021 – Skyscraping Perfection and Blue Sky Stream. Each of these included some of the cards confirmed to be releasing in Evolving Skies’ English version, so it’s likely many of their other cards will also be included, but there is still no guarantee all their V and VMAX cards will appear in the English expansion. So far, six specific V and VMAX cards are confirmed for Evolving Skies – Dragonite V, Noivern V, Rayquaza V, Duraludon V, Rayquaza VMAX, and Duraludon VMAX – contributing to a total of 18 V and 15 VMAX cards confirmed for the set.

Skyscraping Perfection and Blue Sky Stream, meanwhile, only had a combined total of 18 V and VMAX cards, not counting full art and special art variants, according to Bulbapedia. Aside from the Dragon types, Evolving Skies also spotlights Eevee’s eight Eeveelutions. Bulbapedia speculates these cards will come from the Eevee Heroes subset, released in Japan in May 2021. This set only had 12 V and VMAX Pokémon, meaning Evolving skies’ 33 total leaves three V and/or VMAX Pokémon as a mystery.

Pokémon TCG Evolving Skies’ Eeveelutions, Other V & VMAX Cards

While Eevee Heroes provided a mix of V and VMAX cards for the Eeveelutions, Flareon, Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Espeon only received V forms, not VMAX. Only Eeveelution V form cards have been seen in Evolving Skies promotional material so far, but the Pokémon TCG website says the Eeveelutions will “appear in a full rainbow of Pokémon V and Pokémon VMAX,” so it’s possible the English set will give both forms to all eight (though that would mean sacrificing one of Skyscraping Perfection or Blue Sky Stream’s V or VMAX cards).

Along with the Dragon types, Skyscraping Perfection and Blue Sky Stream included 12 V and VMAX cards (again, not including variants) that have not yet appeared in Pokémon TCG – Evolving Skies promotional material. Fans of the Johto Legendary Beasts will be pleased to know the Japanese collections featured Suicune V, as well as V forms of Golurk, Volcarona, and Medicham, all of whom did not receive VMAX cards. However, several popular Pokémon in Skyscraping Perfection and Blue Sky Stream were given both V and VMAX forms: Lycanroc, Gyarados, Trevenant, and Garbodor. While there has been no confirmation these are the exact V and VMAX cards that will be included in Pokémon TCG – Evolving Skies, their Japanese releases suggest they would be simple transfer over to the English expansion.
