Pokémon TCG Sword & Shield Mini Set Coming This September

The next Pokémon Sword and Shield TCG set have been revealed. Totalcards.net put up pre-orders on products for an untitled miniset. Trainers can reportedly get their hands on the new set in September.

Pre-orders for the set went up on Totalcards.net, and it includes premium TCG products including Pin Collection boxes for €12.75, a V Collection box for €16.95, and an Elite Trainer Box for €39.95. Booster pack pre-orders are also available for €3.95. While there is no confirmed release date from The Pokemon Company, the Totalcards.net is listing September 25th as the release date.

The next set is based on the Japanese TCG set, Legendary Heartbeat. The Japanese booster includes legendary Pokémon, such as Celebi, Zacian, and Zamazenta. The poster all had images of Rayquaza and Jirachi, so they will probably be included in the new set. The set will feature 76 cards, including new VMAX Pokémon, and secret rares. It will also introduce “Amazing Rare.” Amazing Rare cards feature powerful attacks, but opponents will only take one prize for knocking out Amazing Rare Pokémon. These cards seem to function differently from the VMAX cards, where opponents take three prizes for knocking out opposing Pokémon.

Legendary Heartbeat will likely tie into the latest Pokémon movie, Pokémon the Movie: Koko. The film features the new Mythical Pokémon, Zarude, and a shiny Celebi, so trainers will likely see TCG versions of those pokemon. Official previews for cards should start dropping soon. The movie was set to come out on July 10th, the same day as Legendary Heartbeat, but was pushed back due to COVID-19. A new release date has not been announced.

Pokémon TCG fans should have a lot to look forward to this summer. The next English set, Darkness Ablaze, releases on August 14th. Legendary Pokémon enthusiasts will have the chance to collect many new legendaries in September. Amazing rares will also add a new wrinkle to the TCG, making it harder for opponents to take prize cards. Once stay-at-home orders are lifted, trainers will have a lot of new cards to create new decks and battle their friends. Hopefully, that day is sooner rather than later.
