While Electric-type Pokémon is one of the rarer types, the type is also one of the most popular in the franchise. This is partially because Ash Ketchum’s starter Pokémon and main partner is a Pikachu, which is an Electric-type and is also one of the main mascots of the series. But, it is also because the Electric-type is arguably one of the most powerful creatures.

The Electric-type only has one weakness, which is Ground-types. But, Electric-type Pokémon can possibly have no weaknesses if they gain the ability to levitate. With powerful moves, they can become unstoppable.

10 Zap Cannon

“Zap Cannon” is a powerful Electric-type attack that was introduced in Generation II. This attack consists of the user firing an electric blast that paralyzes the opponent’s Pokémon every time it hits. With its base attack power of 120, it is not surprising that this move is considered to be a key asset for the players as it will do plenty of damage and make it easy to defeat – even if trainers are up against the toughest Pokémon.

However, that does not mean it is perfect. One of its flaws is that it only has 50% accuracy, which means it is very likely to miss the opponent if used in combat. The low accuracy is meant to balance this attack. Pichu, who is one of the cutest Electric-type Pokémon, is one of many Pokémon that can use this attack.

9 Spark

Another Electric-type move that was introduced in Generation II was “Spark.” When a Pokémon uses this attack, they fire an electrified tackle that has a 30% chance of paralyzing the target.

Although “Spark” only has a base attack power of 65 and a 30% chance of paralyzing opponents, “Spark” is still a better option than other attacks because it has a 100% accuracy. The trainer does not have to worry as much about whether the attack will hit or not.

8 Thunder Fang

One of the Electric-type moves introduced in Generation IV is “Thunder Fang.” If a Pokémon uses this attack, then the user will bite the opponent with electrified fangs, and there is a 10% chance that the opponent will be paralyzed by this.

Also, if the user attacks first during the turn, then there is a separate 10% chance that the target will “flinch” (which means the affected Pokémon will be unable to move during their next turn). In Generation V, one of the legendary dual-type Zekrom’s first moves was “Thunder Fang.”

7 Shock Wave

“Shock Wave” is an Electric-type move that was introduced in Generation III, and the attack consists of the user hitting the target with a jolt of electricity. Although some trainers might be hesitant to use this move due to its low base attack power, which is 60, there are still some positives to it. For one, it never misses.

If the trainer needs to hit their opponent with some quick damage, this move is perfect because it is guaranteed to hit due to the fact that it does not need to pass any accuracy checks. Trainers cannot go wrong with moves that will deal some damage no matter what happens.

6 Thunder

One of the most iconic Electric-type moves is “Thunder,” which was introduced in Generation I. When this attack is used, the user hits the target with a thunderbolt. This attack has a 30% chance of paralyzing the target and has a base attack power of 11o. It also has a 70% accuracy.

“Thunder” is a well-balanced move. With its high base attack power, average accuracy, and high paralyzing chance, the player can get some good mileage out of this move – even if it sometimes misses.

5 Parabolic Charge

Generation VI introduced the move “Parabolic Charge,” which is an Electric-type move that has a base attack power of 65 and a 100% accuracy. Despite this move’s low base attack power compared to other possible moves, this move is still one of the best. As the user attacks everything around it, their HP is restored by half the damage taken by the targets.

Any moves that restore HP while also dealing damage are super powerful because the player is able to accomplish two things at once. They can lower the opponent’s HP while taking care of their own, which is especially important in Pokémon since the player has to basically skip a turn if they want to give their Pokémon a health item.

4 Discharge

Another Electric-type move introduced in Generation IV is “Discharge.” When this attack is used, the trainer unleashes a burst of electricity that hits everything around it, which is why it is called “discharge.” The move has a 30% chance of paralyzing anyone who was hit.

With a relatively high base attack power of 80, a 100% accuracy, and a 30% chance of paralyzing the opponent, this attack is obviously very dangerous. If this move hits, it will do plenty of damage and make it easy to defeat even some tough Pokémon. But, some ally Pokémon may also get hit by this attack if the Pokémon is in double or triple battles. Stunfisk, who is an Electric-type Pokémon that looks more like a Water-type, receives “Discharge” as a possible move at level 25 in Generation VI.

3 Wild Charge

Anyone who played the Generation V games probably know this move that was introduced to them very well. As Blitzle was probably the main Electric-type players got while playing Pokémon Black and White, trainers probably used “Wild Charge” throughout the storyline of those games. When using this move, the user covers itself in electricity and smashes into the target.

Although this move does damage the user a little, the high base attack power of 90 and the 100% accuracy make this move worth the slight pain. With the Electric-type’s lack of weaknesses, this move can tank plenty of strong Pokémon.

2 Rising Voltage

The new Electric-type move from Generation VIII, “Rising Voltage,” may not seem to be worth it at first. While the move has a 100% accuracy, “Rising Voltage” only has a 70% base attack power. With this power, the user attacks the opponent by sending electricity up through the ground.

Although this move does not damage the user, its power does double when the opponent is on Electric Terrain. This means that this move can possibly be stronger than most other moves without any of the pain.

1 Thunderbolt

It would not be a list of the best Electric-type moves without talking about the best and most iconic Electric-type move of all time: “Thunderbolt.” Anyone who watches the Pokémon anime knows that Ash loves to use this move, and for good reason. Even after all these years since this move was introduced in Generation I, it still provides a lot of damage.

If a Pokémon uses this attack, a strong electric blast hits the opponent. The move has a 10% chance of paralyzing the target and has a high base attack power of 90. With it also having 100% accuracy, this old move still is probably the best.
