Pokémon Theory Are Pokémon Actually Unevolved Humans

One theory suggests that Pokémon may be more closely related to humans than players originally thought, and the evidence is striking. If this holds true, then it could drastically change how fans of the franchise view the Pokémon universe.

At times in the Pokémon franchise, Pokémon seem nothing more than pets that their trainers can duel and trade. However, from ancient folklore in the Pokémon texts to biological evidence, it definitely seems likely that humans share a stronger connection to Pokémon than many players may believe. This would also certainly explain a lot of elements in the Pokémon franchise that are otherwise perplexing.

A YouTube video titled Game Theory – Humans are Pokémon published by The Game Theorists provides several convincing arguments as to why humans are actually Pokémon, and vice versa. Though a human can’t simply evolve into a Pokémon like a Pokémon evolves into a different form, the evidence suggests the two could have evolved from each other at one point.

Evidence of Pokémon-Human Marriage

Canalave Library, a location in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, is home to ancient texts that shed light on this specific theory. In their video, The Game Theorists point out that there are several myths located in the library which seem to suggest humans once originated from Pokémon. One of these myths reads, “There lived a Pokémon in the forest. In the forest, the Pokémon shed its hide to sleep as a human,” suggesting the Pokémon somehow evolved into a human form. Another one says, “There once was a Pokémon that became very close to humans. It was a time when there existed no differences to distinguish the two.”

Perhaps even more interesting is that the original translation of this myth implies there was a time when it was normal and accepted for Pokémon and humans to marry. “There once were Pokémon that married people,” the translation explains. “This was a normal thing long ago. People and Pokémon were the same.” While it may be easy to dismiss these texts as simply just myths, The Game Theorists pointed out that other texts in the Canalave library have proven true, such as “The Original Story,” which details the creation of the Pokémon universe.

The Pokedex Says Souls Of Humans & Pokemon Are Connected

The Pokedex provides similar evidence which suggests Pokémon and humans evolved from one another, or at the very least that there’s a special connection between the soul of a human and that of a Pokémon. In Yamask’s entry, for example, it says, “The Pokémon arose from the spirits of people interested in graves. Each retains memories of its former life each of them carries a mask that used to be its face when it was a human.” Phantump’s entry has a similar implication, as it reads, “According to old tales, these Pokémon are stumps possess by the spirits of children who died while lost in the forest.” The Game Theorists also provided evidence from Generation 1 Pokémon. In Kadabra’s entry, it’s suggested that humans with special powers could transform into a Pokémon. “It happened one morning – a bot with extrasensory powers awoke in bed and transformed into Kadabra.”

Finally, the fact that some important human characters in the Pokémon universe have special powers is even more proof of the link between humans and Pokémon. Each generation has had some form of a trainer with psychic abilities. In the anime, gym leader Sabrina had all sorts of psychic and telekinetic powers. Similarly, in the Diamond & Pearl series, players were introduced to the Aura guardians who can sense spiritual energy – the same energy that gives some Pokémon their powers. Both Riley and Ash have been identified as having these sorts of powers, and The Game Theorists posit that even the simple fact that Ash and his friends can withstand behind electrocuted by Pikachu so frequently suggests they have some supernatural power which allows them to survive.

The evidence suggesting humans may actually be Pokémon is very convincing, and given that these clues are spread across the entire Pokémon universe it appears the developers and writers have been trying to hint at this for a long time. It would be interesting for Game Freak to explore this connection further in the next Pokémon game, or even take players back in time to when the two groups lived together in harmony.
