Pokémon Unite has introduced an exciting new way to play with favorites from the beloved Pokémon franchise away from the structure of the usual games, instead presenting something closer to League of Legends. While there are multiple strategies to play the game, from timing attacks and rotations to simply spreading your team out evenly to cover all lanes, there are additional ways to play specific to certain Pokémon.

Of all the five categories, Attackers are, as the name suggests, the best picks when it comes to offense. Able to inflict serious damage to enemies, they can turn the tide of battle in an instant — if played correctly. As they are so heavily weighted towards offense, they can be frail and easily defeated unless certain precautions are taken.

10 Stick With A Supporter Or Defender

Due to those defensive frailties that an Attacker has, it’s wise to stick with at least one teammate, especially if they’re a Supporter or Defensive Pokémon. A Supporter Pokémon can provide buffs to aid teammates in battle, like Eldegoss, or even cover a teammate’s escape in the case of Mr. Mime.

However, especially when playing as a Ranged Attacker, a bulky Defender like Snorlax, Slowbro, or Crustle can often act as a damage sponge while the Attacker fights from a safe distance.

9 Pikachu Is A Stunner

This is both a compliment and a fact. Pikachu may lack in defense and general speed, but not only can it hit hard with ranged attacks, but it can also stun opponents, stopping them in their tracks. Thunder Shock has an impressive splash range for an early-game move, momentarily paralyzing in-range Pokémon and leaving them vulnerable.

Electroweb is also effective when chasing a fleeing foe, as the move will pin the opponent down for a short time, allowing for allies to catch up to it and deal some damage. If paired with a Defender or an All-Rounder, Pikachu in stun mode can change the tide of battle, and as most of its other moves also cause brief paralysis, there is no escape.

8 Cover All Bases With Venusaur

The Grass-type starter from Generation I, Venusaur, can be much more useful it initially seems, despite it being heavily weighted towards attack. Venusaur can use Petal Dance to boost speed and mobility, Giga Drain to heal the damage that it causes, and Solar Beam can become a superweapon of a ranged move.

While these moves help to balance Venusaur, giving it held items such as Assault Vest or Rocky Helmet to boost its HP even further is a wise move. As long as Venusaur is well balanced and doesn’t act alone, it can be one of the most underrated Pokémon in the game.

7 Sneak Up On Opponents With Greninja

Regardless of the execution, every single one of Greninja’s moves serves a purpose beyond just the basics. It can learn three moves to help it escape or to strategically change location in the midst of a battle: Substitute drops a decoy to take damage instead, Double Team creates copies of Greninja that can also attack opponents, and Smokescreen is self-explanatory but useful all the same.

Having one of these on hand for when a situation gets tough supplements Greninja’s offensive moves perfectly. Bubble can slow enemies down, while Water Shuriken can increase speed and even regain health, with the latter also being a perk of Surf.

6 Just Choose Cramorant

Cramorant’s unique moves of Whirlpool and Hurricane trap opponents while dealing continuous damage, and with Whirlpool being one of Cramorant’s first moves, this makes the early game of clearing wild Pokémon much easier to do quickly.

Cramorant can later use Surf, Dive, and Air Slash for different levels of damage and distance coverage, and overall Cramorant is very diverse, if a bit too frail. Using its unite move can quickly reduce every nearby opponent to little to no health, but it is still vulnerable. Accounting for Cramorant’s defensive vulnerability with appropriate held items creates a nigh-unstoppable force for attacking the enemy team.

5 Read The Situation And Be Prepared To Steal Kills

Cinderace is especially useful against another Cinderace on the opposing team. If there are several opponents swarming Rotom or Drednaw, then players with the advanced controls turned on can prioritize getting that final hit on the wild Pokémon using their ranged attacking prowess.

Advanced controls are a game changer, as they allow players to press different buttons for attacking wild Pokémon and opposing players, which can certainly help when there’s a large cluster of enemies around. It’s not the most honorable way to play, but letting your opponents do most of the damage before hitting a couple of late attacks to get the boost or benefits is certainly a viable strategy.

4 Alolan Ninetales Can Slow Down And Frustrate Fleeing Enemies

Similar to the support option of Mr. Mime, Alolan Ninetales is capable of producing a wall that can hinder an escaping foe, slowing them down long enough for the user’s team to attack. This move is called Avalanche.

Ninetales can also learn the move Aurora Veil, which will boost its attack stat. Therefore, combining the two can be devastating for opposing players. Add Ninetales’s unite move on top of this, especially when nearby enemies are stunned, and everything in the nearby vicinity is likely to be wiped out.

3 Psyshock And Awe With Gardevoir

Gardevoir is another example of an accomplished Ranged Attacker if used well. Psyshock has the potential to have little to almost no cooldown if it successfully connects with its target, so if faced with two or more enemies at close range, it should be possible to use this move several times in quick succession.

Moonblast is another later move that not only knocks back its target but can also stun them temporarily, allowing for a chance to escape or rotate. Equipping a Float Stone and a Shell Bell will help to solve Gardevoir’s weaknesses of poor speed and endurance, respectively, and a third held item could help balance the overall coverage even further.

2 Cinderace Is Arguably The Most Accomplished Ranged Attacker

Whether a player prefers Blaze Kick or Pyro Ball, both are strong offensive moves for Cinderace. Pyro Ball maintains the distance as a ranged attack, while Blaze Kick gets in close to deal extra damage. If getting close gets Cinderace into trouble, having Feint on hand to sneak away is a useful move to have in reserve.

The most efficient way to play as Cinderace is to loiter out of range from opponents, maintaining distance and attacking from afar. Without appropriate held items, getting in close will only lead to quick elimination.

1 Attackers Can Be Used To Defend Too

The category of Attacker mainly indicates that the Pokémon’s stats are better suited to dealing damage than taking it or having decent mobility, rather than it only being good for going on the offensive and attacking enemy points.

Should the tide of battle turn for the worst, taking an attacking player and camping on or just behind your team’s point is a good foundation to potentially start a counterattack. Not only will the team be positioned to stop the opponents from scoring, but players will be right next to the health berries, allowing them to defend for even longer.
