Quick Links

Cinderace is a very popular choice in Pokemon Unite. You’ll see it in plenty of games, and it’s usually a battle of who can lock him in quickest when it comes to the select screen. There’s a reason for this — Cinderace will obliterate teams if given half a chance, it really is that strong.

With great power comes great fragility, however, and you’ll need to keep on the move to be effective. While Cinderace has great mobility, it’s very weak at the start of the match. You’ll need to invest time into farming up neutral Pokemon, which could give the enemy team an opportunity to get ahead.

When To Pick Cinderace

If you manage to get hold of one of the prized carry roles, then choosing Cinderace is often a no-brainer. You’ll have great range, speed, and mobility, which gets even better if you drop below half health. If you want a high risk, high reward Pokemon, this is the one.

There’s few Pokemon that counter it fully, but you’ll need to watch out for mobile junglers like Gengar, Lucario and Zeraora. For most of the roster though, you’ll rip right through them. Thanks to this mobility you’re not necessarily relying on a tank lane partner either — going all-in with another Attacker or All-Rounder is often a good plan.

Cinderace: On Fire Build

This setup is all about getting the most out of your damage potential, bursting enemies down before they have a chance to react or lock you down. Dive in, unleash your moves, and get out again without taking too much punishment.

Flame Charge is the dash move you should opt for here, as it can damage multiple enemies and applies a slow post-13, while Pyro Ball is the Unite equivalent of sticking it in the back of the net — a high-damage move that adds a burn and a debuff to enemies. Follow up with Blazing Bicycle Kick for a spectacular finisher.

The item choices are pretty straightforward here. Buddy Barrier is for when you use your Unite move, which should be every time it comes off cooldown, while Scope Lens ramps up your criticals and adds more damage to your basic attacks. Muscle Band aids this, although you can also opt for a Razor Claw if you want more on-hit damage after using moves. Eject Button is a must for any Attacker.

Cinderace: Closer Build

This build is focused on closing gaps, and closing kills. It’s a far more mobile build that should have you putting out more consistent damage in a quicker time, choosing to focus on your basic attacks rather than moves as your regular source of pain.

Both Flame Charge and Blaze Kick come with gap-closing potential, and can also be used to get out of a battle when things become a bit crowded. This is good for when you’re contesting neutral objectives such as Zapdos. It’s the Unite equivalent of Gazza weaving through the enemy defence, before sticking one in the back of the net with Blazing Bicycle Kick.

Item choices are almost identical, meaning you can flex pick and decide your style in the game rather than beforehand. Buddy Barrier and Muscle Band are automatic choices, with Focus Band a good third for survivability and Razor Claw better for increased damage. Again, stick with Eject Button.
