On first look, you’d think the Pokemon Unite version of Crustle was the tankiest of all Pokemon on the roster. It’s a crab with a giant slab of rock on its back, after all. Naturally, as a Defender it has a lot of sustain, but if you’re thinking you’ll just sit there and soak up damage, be mindful there’s a lot more nuance to playing Crustle.

However, this is where you can surprise the enemy team. Crustle is more flexible than just being a tank, with great mobility and the potential to really throw the spanner in the works of your opponents’ strategy. It’s a Pokemon that requires risk to get the maximum reward, but what a reward that could be.

When To Pick Crustle

The best time to pick Crustle is perhaps when you need a goalscorer, a Pokemon to rack up the points quickly and reliably. You can’t always count on your teammates for this, especially in solo queue, so often you’ll have to take that mantle on yourself.

Thankfully, Crustle is great at this. A Shell Smash build offers incredible mobility, and you can easily opt for either an offensive build should your team need a little more damage output. Your team shouldn’t expect you to tank fights, especially as one of your core moves reduces your Defense and Sp. Defense to zero.

Crustle: Goalscorer Build

Probably a standard build, this will let you get around the map quickly and easily, popping up wherever there’s an opportunity to put those all-important points on the board. You’ll have enough sustain for this not to be too much of a risk, and you’ll want to farm up as much as your team setup allows.

Shell Smash is your go-to move for getting around, turning you into Usain Bolt. Use it when you’re approaching lanes, rather than in them, as you’ll be exposed thanks to the defense sacrifice involved. Then, Stealth Rock will help you collect points like a magnet ready for conversion. Rubble Rouser is an immense Unite Move that can really help your team seize control of a lane.

For this build you’ll want to pick up Buddy Barrier and Score Shield, two pretty standard Supporter items. Focus Band will help you mitigate the lack of defense, although Attack Weight is also a decent option if you want to be a bit more disruptive. Goal-Getter is the best for applying pressure when scoring.

Crustle: Hunter Build

This build is all about going after enemies, locking them down, and taking them out. It’s best used to hunt down the opposing carries, before executing them ruthlessly. It’s a build that should help your team get ahead through a healthy offense, but be mindful that you’re *not* a tank here.

Shell Smash is still the first-choice move for getting around, in particular breaking past the frontlines. However, you’ll want to pair it with X-Scissor, which deals a ton of damage when you manage to land all three hits and apply the stun.

Items remain similar, with the Buddy Barrier and Focus Band being reliable choices, while the Muscle Band adds that little extra damage you’ll need to defeat your opponents. You still could run the Score Shield and go into the match with total move flexibility, you’d just sacrifice that ruthlessness. X Attack is the best Battle Item for this build.
