Pokemon Unite is finally coming to mobile devices tomorrow, and developer TiMi Studios is introducing a number of changes to mark the occasion. The Battle Pass will refresh and include brand new Holowear styles for multiple Pokemon, but there are also some features teased in the announcement that look very interesting to current and new players alike.

Having recently celebrated a major milestone with free Aeos Tickets after confirming 9 million downloads on the Switch, the free-to-play MOBA title seems to be more than just another short-lived Pokemon spinoff. Add to this the 7.5 million people who have pre-registered for the mobile release and it means there are plenty of eyes on what the second Battle Pass has to offer, and what new gameplay additions await trainers.

In the Pokemon Unite trailer, new Holowear styles for Charizard, Garchomp, Gengar, Lucario, and Snorlax are shown, alongside outfits already available to purchase. Some of the best looking outfits show off Gengar as an astronaut, and Garchomp as a cowboy. New items of clothing to customize each player’s personal avatar are also quickly on display. Additionally, a number of updates will be applied to the MOBA when it releases on mobile. These include the ability to join and create a “Unite Squad” of up to 30 trainers, UI changes, more supported languages, and the ability to team-up with others through crossplay.

It’s not clear from the trailer which Pokemon Unite Holowear styles will be available in the new Battle Pass, or how many will be included. The previous pass only had two styles available (Hip-Hop Pikachu and Captain-Style Cinderace), and trainers had to complete the entire 90 levels to unlock Cinderace’s pirate-themed outfit. Other Holowear offerings are available, but must be purchased from the in-game store, or won by chance. However, there are other items to be claimed from the pass, like trainer outfits, Aeos Tickets, and Item Enhancers. If sticking with the price of the Season 1 Battle Pass, the new one will cost 490 Aeos Gems which is equivalent to $7.99.

While new outfits are exciting, it’s the new features that should have fans excited about the MOBA’s future. Including an integrated squad system could help solo players climb the Ranks of Pokemon Unite. So far, solo trainers have either braved the chaotic matchmaking alone, or went searching for squads online, with varying degrees of success. For established squads, the change could make communication between members more streamlined, and help with finding a preferred team outside of their small group easier when certain members are unavailable.

Then again, the squad system could always turn out to be another big fix that Pokemon Unite needs. There are still issues with Unite Moves and bugged held items that are affecting gameplay long after the Switch release.

Pokemon Unite is available now on Nintendo Switch and releases on September 22 for mobile devices.
