Greedent was added to Pokemon Unite last month and they’ve shaken up the meta, taking a spot as one of the most played ‘mons among top players. There are some other expected picks such as Lucario, but the line-up is fairly diverse – if lacking in Defenders.

One Reddit user – who said they came painstakingly close to reaching Master – gathered the data of the top 100 players to find out what ‘mons get mained most. That’s a tongue twister. A ‘main’ is a Pokemon a player has used most in their last 20 matches. If it’s a tie, the two Pokemon in question get a half point instead.

From top to bottom, the list below shows the mon’s that are most to least played.

  • Lucario
  • Eldegoss
  • Mr Mime
  • Greedent
  • Wigglytuff
  • Talonflame
  • Zeraora
  • Greninja
  • Cinderace
  • Sylveon
  • Venusaur
  • Crustle
  • Slowbro
  • Absol
  • Pikachu
  • Snorlax
  • Blastoise
  • Charizard

There have been some interesting changes to the meta. More players (six in total) are maining Lucario while Blastoise is barely clinging on. They’ve dropped down one point to a single player. Meanwhile, Charizard has joined the list at one player.

Venusaur is the more popular Gen One starter, although they’ve dipped by a half-point to 3.5. Meanwhile, Zeraora has shot down, losing 3.5 players.

Slowbro, Pikachu, Cinderance, Mr Mime, and Eldegoss have seen no change whatsoever while Greedent has lost 6.5 players, plummeting after a promising launch. They overtook Lucario when they debuted but that reign as champion was short-lived.

This listing leaves Blissey, Cramorant, Garchomp, Gardevoir, Gengar, Machamp, Mamoswine, and Ninetails at zero. Unfortunately, they aren’t popular enough to breach into the top players’ meta. However, with Blastoise on the decline, we could potentially see one of them make their way up. Charizard’s one point similarly might not last long.

Nonetheless, as the post points out, there are 18 out of 26 Pokemon on the list – Unite might be more balanced than people thought. A lot of the roster are getting their time in the sun, but Gengar still sits with a lowly zero. Maybe one day they’ll get some love, eh?
