Pokémon UNITE’s arena map is getting a winter wonderland makeover in the game’s newest holiday event. A sneak peek video showed a few new and exciting holiday festivities for players to experience. These festivities will not only include a frosty overlay, but will also have holiday outfits for players and Pokémon to wear, and a new addition to the roster of playable Pokémon.
Pokémon UNITE is a free-to-play game available on the Nintendo Switch and in the app store where players can battle against real players or wild Pokémon. There are typically two teams of five that battle against each other and use their Pokémon’s different abilities to be the best there ever was. While players battle each other they can collect energy also known as Aeos, which is used to score points in goals that are set up throughout the arena. Whichever team ends with the most amount of points wins. Unlike most Pokémon games, players are given a roster of Pokémon in different classes to choose from and can then level up by battling others.
Pokemon UNITE’s new preview announced that they will be adding the flying-type Dragonite to the roster of playable Pokémon. This addition rounds the count up to 29 playable Pokémon in Pokémon UNITE. Dragonite is going to be added as an “All-Rounder” which means they are well-rounded in offense and endurance. The preview also showed a layer of frost, snow, and ice that covers each arena and adds to the winter wonderland feeling of this holiday event. This is the first time Pokémon UNITE has given their arenas a makeover since the launch of the game. This winter wonderland also appears to include a snowball fight element with the game. Pokémon are able to throw snowballs at each other and turn other players into snowpeople when they are KO’d.
The preview also showed new outfits for the players and their Pokémon to wear. It includes a Santa hat to put on the Pokémon and winter wear as well. Pokémon UNITE is known for its addition of fun outfits for Pokémon and players and it looks like this event is no exception. Another thing during the video was a new animation of a sled to transport characters to different areas of the arena. The animation shows Pikachu hopping into a sled and flying from one base to another. There is also an animation that occurs when a player is attacking another Pokémon. Presents pop up during each hit which shows that the attack landed successfully.
When Pokémon UNITE was first released there were only 20 playable characters. Now with each event and season, UNITE players are seeing new additions to the game. With more and more characters being added to the roster, players are able to look forward to the potential of seeing their favorite Pokémon. The Pokémon UNITE holiday event will be available on December 15th on Nintendo Switch and mobile.
