Pokémon What Day Pokémons 25th Anniversary Actually Is

2021 will mark a huge milestone for the Pokémon franchise, as the series will be celebrating its 25th anniversary. The Pokémon Day celebrations are only a few weeks away, and fans are expecting some huge announcements to be made when it arrives.

There are a number of huge video game franchises celebrating big anniversaries this year. Dragon Quest, Castlevania, Metroid, and The Legend of Zelda will be celebrating their 35th anniversaries, while Quake, Persona, Resident Evil, and Tomb Raider will be celebrating their 25th anniversaries. 2021 will also see the 25th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise, as Pokémon Red and Green were released in Japan back in ’96, with the international releases happening two years later. The anniversary of the series, which started out as a risky and glitch-filled set of experimental titles on an outdated handheld system and turned into the biggest media franchise of all time, takes place on what is now known as Pokémon Day.

The Pokémon franchise is still bringing in millions of sales, with Pokémon Sword and Shield being the first entries in the series to sell more than 20 million copies since Pokémon Gold and Silver. The future for the Pokémon franchise is currently uncertain, as there are no upcoming mainline entries on the schedule. The Pokémon Company is likely saving its announcements for the end of the month, as Pokémon Day falls on February 27, marking the 25th anniversary of the series.

How Will The Pokémon Company Celebrate Pokémon Day

The Pokémon Company has announced that New Pokémon Snap is coming to Nintendo Switch on April 30, 2021. It’s also likely that Pokémon Unite will be released this year. It’s possible that Pokémon Sleep could be released this year, but the game hasn’t been discussed since it was first announced. Everything else is pure speculation at this point, but there is a chance that players could see the reveal of new Pokémon Let’s Go games set in the Johto region. There are three DLC fighters remaining for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and the game is currently lacking a representative from Pokémon Sword and Shield, so that could also be revealed on Pokémon Day.

The main announcement that fans are expecting are remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. There have been a lot of clues that the games are in development, but there are currently no credible leaks regarding their existence. The Sinnoh remakes make sense, considering how popular the original games were, and how The Pokémon Company saves one remake generation for each console, with the last ones being Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire on the Nintendo 3DS. The fans won’t have to wait long to find out, as Pokémon Day is only a few weeks away.
