Fans even noticed that the American version changed the Yellow Rangers’ gender in a couple of series from the Japanese source material to be more female inclusive.

Over the years, there have been many notable characters of color that helped save the city and the world from destruction. One even became the first-ever Black Red Ranger and leader in the franchise. These Rangers were always up to the task of defending the innocent and kicking monsters back where they belong.

10 Ethan (Dino Rangers)

Ethan (Kevin Duhaney) was the Blue Ranger in Power Rangers Dino Thunder. He was tagged as being the group nerd and was often seen playing on his computer, video games inventing unique technology. He was far from being a coward and often stood up for himself and others. Before being a Ranger, he often got in trouble due to his pranks and hacking.

As a Ranger, he had the ability to turn his skin impenetrable. Ethan also proved to be understanding even when Trent returned to the good side and soon came to accept him. He’s also noted for another huge accomplishment. Ethan would come to develop a software that would later be used by S.P.D in the future.

9 Damon (Lost Galaxy)

In Lost Galaxy, Damon (Reggie Rolle) was appointed as the Green Ranger in the first episode after removing the Quasar Sabers with the others. Damon was a senior mechanic on the Astro Megaship used by the Space Rangers. Compared to his friends, Damon was seen as the jokester and the more lighthearted character.

He often eased tension between the Rangers. But he took his job seriously and his impressive knowledge of the Megaship came in handy at times. Once a Ranger, always a Ranger as Damon returned to fight the Armada with others.



8 Joel (Lightspeed Rescue)

Joel (Keith Robinson) was better know as the “Sky Cowboy” in the popular Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue. Before being recruited, he was a pro at flying airplanes through the sky and being a stuntman. His skills led to him becoming a Ranger and controlling the Aero Rescue 3 Zord. Out of all the Rangers, Joel was hesitant to believe that demons escaped and were destroying the city.

When he first began, he defied Ms. Fairweathers’ (Monica Louwerens) order to try and to do it alone. It backfired. Over the course of the show, Joel came to mature and learned to work as a team and listen to his boss.

7 Scott (RPM)

Scott (Eka Darville) was the Red Ranger in RPM and fans could relate to his backstory. He served in Air Support during the last battle of Venjix. His father is also a decorated Colonel. But he often found himself living in the shadow of his brother who he would lose in battle.

Scott would then be recruited to become the Red Ranger and prove to be a good leader. He was a voice of reassurance for the team and made sure to always have the upper hand when fighting an enemy.

6 Jack (SPD)

The Red Ranger from S.P.D. wasn’t what the rest of the Rangers expected. This series takes place years into the future where the Rangers are an elite police force. Jack (Brandon Jay McLaren) was a street thief alongside Z (Monica May), who would also become the Yellow Ranger. Cruger offers him a chance to start fresh and to become something much more.

Jack is at first hesitant but accepts and becomes the leader of the B-Squad much to the dismay of the Blue Ranger who was aiming to take the spot. Jack’s ways of thinking often landed him in hot water with Sky and Cruger. He would leave S.P.D. after realizing he wanted to help people on the streets and couldn’t do so as a Ranger. Jack also had the genetic ability to phase through solid materials.

5 Katie (Time Force)

Katie (Deborah Estelle Philips) was awesome in every way. She was the Yellow Ranger in Time Force. She along with the rest of the team were Time Force detectives sent back to 2001 to capture Ransik. She has a unique and handy ability of super strength. While she may be tough as nails, she’s the sweetest person on the team.

She often looked out for her friends, especially Trip (Kevin Kleinberg). Katie was open with her feelings and often worried. Especially when the Rangers could be altering the future that could jeopardize her family. Katie was never one to back down from a challenge and often tried to reason with Jen (Erin Cahill) and her decisions.

4 Tanya (Zeo & Turbo)

In the beginning series, it wasn’t unheard of for Rangers to pass on their powers to the next generation. Tanya (Nakia Burrise) would become the first Yellow Zeo Ranger and the first Yellow Turbo Ranger. She was first seen as a young girl in Africa who saves Aisha (Karan Ashley). Aisha passes on her Zeo crystal other and grows up with the rest of the Rangers.

Tanya was the most inexperienced and felt unworthy of the crystal, but she comes to accept her role while also dealing with displacement having to adjust to a new life. She would then become the Turbo Ragner and fight Divatox before retiring and passing her powers on to Ashely.

3 Aisha (Mighty Morphin)

Aisha was the second Mighty Morphin Yellow Ranger after Trini (Thuy Trang) was given the blessing by Zordon to pass on her Power Coin. She became a notable Ranger protecting Angel Grove from Lord Zedd and even Ivan Ooze in the original movie. Before she was even a Ranger, she was meant for the role.

She helped stop a rolling carriage holding the son of one of her teachers. As a Ranger, Aisha came to save the day when defeating the Hate Monster who turned the other Rangers against each other. When the Rangers were transformed into children, Aisha realized she wanted to use her veterinary skills in Africa. She sent back Tanya with the Zeo Crystal fully aware it would alter her family history.

2 Zack (Mighty Morphin)

In the first American installment of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Zack (Walter Jones) became the first Black Ranger. He was a teenager with an attitude just like Zordon wanted. He was upbeat, charismatic, a jokester, and a martial artist. He and his friends were chosen to become the first Power Rangers.

While hesitant at first, Zack soon realized that he was meant for the role. Zack, Jason (Austin St.John), and Trini would give up their Power Coins to attend a Peace Conference in Switzerland. Zack would pass on his powers to Adam who would make a crossover appearance in later series.

1 T.J. (Turbo)

T.J. (Selwyn Ward) made Power Ranger history. He was handpicked by the ultimate Power Ranger, Tommy Oliver (Jason David Frank) to become the Red Turbo Ranger. This was the first time in the franchise that a character of color would become the team leader. He would then become the Blue Space Ranger.

T.J. actually dreamed of one day becoming a Ranger and it came true when he aided Tommy in fighting Divatox’s Piranhatrons. Tommy would then pass on his powers saying, “I wouldn’t be standing here today TJ, and if weren’t for your courage and strength, I chose you to lead the team as the new Red Ranger.” T.J. was a formidable leader when Divatox destroyed the Power Chamber. T.J. decides they must follow her to space where they would become the Space Rangers.
