Predicting The Reveals At Pokemon Presents

Pokemon has just announced a new Pokemon Presents coming on Sunday, and the fanbase is already speculating about what we might see. While Legends: Arceus leaked the morning of the showcase it was revealed in, there are typically fewer leaks around the Pokemon events than there are some of the other, similar showcases. That’s ironic when you consider how frequently Pokemon games themselves leak ahead of launch, but that’s another matter. What this means is we don’t really have any idea what could be in the Pokemon Presents, but there are a few features more likely than others, so here are our best guesses.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Events

Predicting The Reveals At Pokemon Presents

Dataminers have already found lots of evidence of extra Pokemon in BDSP, so some kind of event which unleashes them seems a nailed on certainty. Using various surfing glitches, some players have even been able to travel out of bounds and reach new islands, where Legendary and Mythical Pokemon lie in wait. It’s likely that a planned event (we suspect due to be revealed in the Pokemon Presents) will grant you legitimate access to these islands, and to the Pokemon that live there.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl DLC

Predicting The Reveals At Pokemon Presents

If you’re talking bona fide expansion packs like Sword & Shield received, I think that’s pretty unlikely for BDSP. However, I can definitely see Nintendo calling the aforementioned events and islands DLC and offering them out for free, so you might technically get BDSP DLC (try saying that five times quickly), but it’s a bit of a Monkey’s Paw situation. Don’t expect a 15 hour adventure into the Distortion World – not in BDSP, anyway.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus DLC

Predicting The Reveals At Pokemon Presents

If you’re looking for a Pokemon DLC, Legends might be the horse to bet on. BDSP feels like it was just laying the groundworks for Legends, which is far more ambitious and creative in scope. It’s missing a lot of fantastic Pokemon (Tsareena, my queen…), and the adventuring spirit of the game makes it perfectly suited to adding new areas, new challenges, and new side stories. So much more of the region is yet to be explored, and the settlement storyline could be even more involved. With some of the most interesting side quests Pokemon has ever offered, Legends: Arceus has a lot of different directions to build upon if it gets any DLC.

Pokemon Sleep

Predicting The Reveals At Pokemon Presents

I have no idea what this is. It’s a Pokemon game, but for when you sleep. That’s kind of it. We have a Pokemon game for brushing our teeth, but that’s clearly just a gimmick for children. Pokemon Sleep has been hyped up a lot more, and still no one knows what it is. We might get more details, we might get a gameplay reveal, or we might find out there is no gameplay to speak of. It might even be dropped during the showcase – since I have no idea what it is or what it does, I have no way of knowing how long it will take to develop. Hopefully we’ll know what Pokemon Sleep is by the end of the presents, and might even be treated to the sequel, Pokemon Go To The Bathroom.

New Pokemon Snap DLC

Predicting The Reveals At Pokemon Presents

Since New Pokemon Snap launched, we’ve been given one free update with three new maps in it. We haven’t heard much about Snap for a while, but there’s a good chance that could happen again. There are still a lot of great Pokemon not in the game (Tsareena, my queen…), and much like Legends it has endless possibilities for where the expansions could take it. We might even get to go to the one place that hasn’t been corrupted by capitalism… SPACE!

Pokemon Unite New Map

Predicting The Reveals At Pokemon Presents

Pokemon Unite does its own thing a lot. Just this morning, Hoopa was revealed in a YouTube video with very little fanfare, even though its teleportation powers may be the biggest impact on the meta to date. I wouldn’t expect a lot from Unite here then, mostly because it’s essentially a TiMi game with Pokemon in rather than a Pokemon game itself. However, it has been crying out for a new map, so for a major update like that, it might make the cut for a Presents.

Pokemon Gen 9

Predicting The Reveals At Pokemon Presents

We’re into the longshots now. I don’t see this happening so soon after Legends: Arceus when they still have BDSP content to release, or while Legends is still at the forefront of our minds. I think Gen 9 will at least get revealed before the end of the year, and there’s an outside chance it even launches in 2022, but I don’t think Nintendo will want to distract us with it now.

Let’s Go Johto

In some ways, this is an even wilder prediction than Gen 9, but you guys get your wild guesses so let me have mine. Deal? Let’s Go is probably my second favourite Pokemon game ever after HeartGold. It’s the perfect distillation of everything I love about Pokemon with a lot of the annoying elements shorn away. And it’s just been abandoned, even though giving every game a Let’s Go would basically be printing money. Yeah, I guess I’m a little bitter.

Keep in mind that the Presents is set to be 14 minutes long, meaning even if you take out the longshots of Gen 9 and Let’s Go, it’s unlikely these will all be there. We might even get a complete surprise, like a sequel to Poke Park for the Switch. Oh, and Pikachu. That’s my final guess. We see a Pikachu.
