This past weekend, 12 victims stepped forward to accuse four prominent members of the Pokemon YouTube community of being sexual predators.

Nathan Putnam, also known as Dekadurr, who makes graphics for Pokemon YouTubers and has appeared at live events with community members, has been accused by four women of being a sexual predator. One accuser, a 19 year old woman going by the name Sylveon (named after Eevee’s fairy-type evolved form), has created a YouTube video called “Finally coming forward…” where she explains the situation in detail. According to Sylveon, she was 15 years old when she met Putnam online, and he pressured her for nude photos. Feeling pressure from Putnam and intimidated by his status in the Pokemon YouTube community, 15 year old Sylveon eventually sent him the nude photos. Putnam was allegedly in his early 20s at the time.

Since Sylveon’s accusations, Kotaku has spoken with three other individuals accusing Putnam of aggressively asking them for nude photos. “I feel it’s important for everyone to know the horrible things he’s done to not only myself, but many others. As he is (or was) apart [sic] of an online community full of kids, this will continue to happen to young girls if we do not stop him,” one accuser, going by the name of Caroline, told Kotaku. Caroline showed proof to Kotaku that Putnam knew she was only 16 when he asked her for nude photos, as her age was visible on her social medial profiles where they communicated.

Another Pokemon YouTuber, Kyle “TheKingNappy” McNeal, initially spoke out against Putnam when these allegations came to light in since-deleted tweets. However, allegations soon arose against McNeal himself, with Twitch’s Callum and YouTube’s GameboyLuke both describing predatory behavior from him. McNeal has deleted most of his responses to the allegations, made through Twitter and streams, but has defended himself by saying that the situations described were between consenting individuals.

The third Pokemon YouTube personality accused of being a sexual predator is known as Mudkip Mama, and while not quite as prominent as McNeal or Putnam, has regularly appeared in the streaming series Primetime with them. Mudkip Mama, who is in her 30s, is accused of being sexually aggressive to then-18 year old YouTuber Patterrz. She’s also been accused of being sexually explicit in a conversation with a 15 year old girl named Nikki, who claims that Mudkip Mama knew her age.

Since the allegations have come to light, Mudkip Mama has deleted most of her social media.

Finally, the fourth Pokemon YouTuber accused of being a sexual predator is the modder known as Mizumi. Mizumi is known for his Nintendo mods, like the Waluigi Super Smash Bros. Ultimate mod, as well as his various Pokemon series mods. Mizumi is accused of trying to get nude photos from a 14 year old, the now-18 years old woman named Tori. Another accuser, the then-19 years old woman named Jenny, says that Mizumi would talk about killing himself and how getting nudes would make him feel better as a way to emotionally coerce her into sending nude photos.

Mizumi has reportedly sent multiple messages to Kotaku to offer his side of the story, only to then say that some of the messages were the result of someone hacking his account. One message from Mizumi reportedly said: “Also, if you do mention me in your article, don’t forget to include a link to my YouTube channel. Thanks again :)”

Unfortunately, sexual predators utilizing video games to find victims is nothing new. Just a few months ago, a child predator tried to use Fortnite to groom a victim, and there are countless other examples of similar situations happening online.

Moving forward, it will be interesting to see how the Pokemon YouTube community reactions to these allegations and what else comes to light.
