Quentin Tarantino is back in action with his eighth movie, The Hateful Eight, his second western right after Django Unchained. While promoting this new film, and with that outspoken personality of his, Tarantino has been open to any questions regarding his future projects.

The acclaimed writer and director has been clear about his plans to retire after his tenth movie, although he wouldn’t exactly disappear from the film industry; he plans on writing novels and contributing to film criticism. With just two more movies to go before his proposed retirement, fans are holding on to the possibility of a third volume from his celebrated Kill Bill series, with Tarantino clearly open to the return of The Bride.

In an interview with Variety, Tarantino addressed once more the possibility of making Kill Bill Vol. 3. Although The Bride (played by Uma Thurman) fulfilled her plans of revenge in Kill Bill Vol. 2, there’s material for her to come back for more. As he explains:

“I’m not committing to it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if The Bride made one more appearance before the whole thing is said and done. I am talking to Uma about it just a little bit. Some of the stuff that I’d written that never made it into the movie that maybe I could use.”

This third instalment wasn’t part of his original plans for the story, saying he “felt he said what he had to say,” but he is now enthusiastic about reuniting with Elle Driver, Sofie Fatale, and more. He went on to describe Kill Bill as his “most visionary movie,” stating his work has since gone more towards a literary side than to a vision-oriented one.

Tarantino has previously said the characters in Kill Bill Vol. 3 will have aged in the film as much as they have in real life, and has hinted the story could center on Nikki – daughter of Vivica A. Fox’s character, Vernita Green – who would be going after The Bride to avenge her mother’s death.

With his supposed retirement closer than anyone would like to admit, and with all the teasing from his part on a third Kill Bill movie, it would be disappointing for fans if he decided not to move forward with it – though it would also be understandable, as he wouldn’t venture to do a movie with a story he is not satisfied with. More so if it is a sequel to one of his personal favourites and one of his last works. Still, for fans of Kill Bill, the possibility is there.

The Hateful Eight is now playing in select theaters in 70mm format, with a wider digital release starting on December 31st, 2015.
