Legendary actor Ray Liotta joins Hanna season 3 as Gordon Evans, the Chairman behind UTRAX and the Pioneer Group. In Hanna season 3, Evans emerges as the mastermind behind the creation of Hanna and the many female assassins bred by UTRAX. Hanna (Esmé Creed-Miles) and Marissa Wiegler team up to stop Evans’ scheme and bring down UTRAX once and for all.
Screen Rant spoke to Ray Liotta about joining Hanna as the main villain of its third and final season, what it’s like working with series leads Esmé Creed-Miles and Mireille Enos, and where Gordon Evans ranks among the bad guys Liotta has played in his career.
Screen Rant: Is the name “The Chairman” a sly reference to Frank Sinatra?
Ray Liotta: (laughs) No, I don’t think so.
What drew you to the role of Gordon Evans and to join Hanna in season 3?
Ray Liotta: [The role] seemed interesting and extreme. Sometimes, you just gotta say, “What the heck” and I’m glad I did.
Gordon seems to be the one character who scares Marissa Wiegler. Can you talk about his relationship with Mireille Enos’ character?
Ray Liotta: It’s kind of a toxic relationship. The character I play is in his own world. He’s got his own beliefs. He actually works outside of the system as well as for the system.
How did you find working with Mireille Enos and Esme Creed-Miles?
Ray Liotta: Oh, it was great! I really, really liked them. They were very serious [about their roles] and it was nice. I saw the first two seasons but very quickly. The storyline in the first two seasons was not as deep as this season is. They’re both really committed actors and it’s really fun to work with people who are that committed to playing make-believe.
Your character seems to have a real vendetta against Hanna and he targets young people. What do you think drives your character, especially against young people?
Ray Liotta: Probably because of cell phones. They’re always on their cell phones. (laughs) It’s not just young people. I’m sure he took out some older people too.
You’ve played some classic heavies in your career. Where do you rank Gordon Evans as a bad guy?
Ray Liotta: Oh, he’s the ultimate bad guy. This guy’s [agenda] is big. It was worldwide. There were people in other countries that I’m going after based on this theory. At the end of the day, he just wanted to protect the country. But he just does it in a very wrong way.
