Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro has launched his own esports organization, fittingly named CaseEsports. The organization also announced its first team, a Brazilian lineup that will compete in CS:GO. Casemiro, a Brazilian national, is an avid Counter-Strike player himself, occasionally streaming his CS:GO gameplay on his Twitch channel.

The announcement came earlier this week on Casemiro’s official Twitter account, where he also revealed the organization’s CS:GO roster. The footballer provided a link to CaseEsports’s own Twitter, which has gained over 2,000 followers since the Thursday announcement.

Riflers Felipe “delboNi” Delboni, Denis “dzt” Fischer, and AWPer Paulo “land1n” Felipe make up the bulk of the experience on Case’s lineup. The latter two competed together on Tempo Storm from 2017 to 2018, while the two riflers played alongside each other on Imperial earlier this year. DelboNi has also played under a number of popular Brazilian organizations, including YeaH! and INTZ.

The lineup is rounded out by former FURIA Academy members Yan “yepz” Pedretti and Vinicius “n1ssim” Pereira. Yepz captained the team in 2018, while n1ssim made his CS:GO debut under the FURIA Academy banner in February of this year. CaseEsports looks to make its first CS:GO appearance in the qualifiers for DreamHack Open December, which have not yet been scheduled.

“This team was created out of a hobby of mine that I really enjoy,” says Casemiro. “I wanted to take it to a professional level, and just like in my career, I want them to be the best. I know that creating a new team and winning titles will take time and require a lot of work, but I hope that the players and the fans will really enjoy this project.”

The announcement says the organization’s short-term goal is to “quickly grow in the Spanish CS:GO scene and secure spots at important international tournaments.” DreamHack Open December, the event the team hopes to qualify for, boasts a $100,000 prize pool.

Casemiro is just one of many traditional sports professionals to join the growing esports scene this year. Manchester City star Sergio Aguero launched KRU Esports earlier this month, as did Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster with Team Diverge.
