Lara Croft is coming to life next year, as Tomb Raider: The Live Experience debuts in London. This real-world Tomb Raider experience will drop visitors in an “immersive adventure” alongside Lara and co., in a race against time to save the world.
For visitors feeling less adventurous, the Live Experience opens alongside a less-action orientated museum exhibition in Groningen, the Netherlands. Both of these real-life events are part of Lara’s ongoing 25th birthday celebrations, marking a quarter of a century since her breakout hit on the original PlayStation.
“Tomb Raider: The Live Experience will give fans the chance to dive into the world of Tomb Raider”, reads a statement announcing the event. “For the first time ever, teams of visitors will work together while fully immersed in a genuine Tomb Raider adventure, forging their own destiny alongside recognizable characters from the blockbuster franchise.”
The experience is a collaboration between Crystal Dynamics Little Lion Entertainment – the latter of which has plenty of experience delivering these immersive events.
Over in the Netherlands, we have the 25 Years of Tomb Raider exhibition. This will be taking place in the Storyworld museum in Groningen, and features content from the entire series, documenting the development of the games. A statement on this collaboration reads as follows:
“The World of Lara Croft details the history of Tomb Raider games and media, the art and design of the iconic game franchise, and the popular appeal of both the game and its lead character. The exhibit includes content from the game’s origins in 1996 through the most recent Survivor trilogy, which began in 2013 with the rebooted Tomb Raider game. Visitors will learn about design details, developer insights, and elements of Tomb Raider in the real world, including samples of the franchise’s merchandise over the years and appearances of Lara Croft in movies and comics.”
While the Live Experience is set for an unspecified date in 2022, the World of Lara Croft exhibition could be with us much sooner. The statement says it will be ready for its debut in 2022, the website lists a more ambitious opening date of December 22, 2021.
