The internet is often filled with people who are best described as trash, and this is clearly demonstrated with how some are treating Reckful’s girlfriend, Jenna, following his death earlier this week. A quick search will reveal posts on forums and Twitter filled with name calling and slamming her character, stemming from the costs associated with covering his funeral.
In response to one of these vile trolls, Jenna has revealed a few key points about Reckful’s financing prior to his passing. At first, she responded by stating that, “most of what Byron had went to Everland and he wasn’t currently a multi-millionaire. Nothing is going to me.”
Jenna went on to clarify this point, which appears to be the main misconception online right now, stating, “Byron didn’t have tons like you think. Everything went to Everland. It costs a lot to pay for the work that goes into that game. My conscience is clear. It is my duty to take care of his parents now and you know nothing about their finances.”
This should come as little surprise for anyone who has followed the ongoing and troubled development of Everland, an open-world social MMO that was meant to let players own property, create music, meet friends, and more. The goal was to create a game with Twitch chat that would be fully integrated with the streaming platform, filled with Easter eggs relating to streamers. The concept is somewhat like Steam Raiders, which allows for fun, simple PvE combat, and participation between streamers and viewers on the Twitch platform, with custom skins made to represent certain content creators.
Since beginning development in 2018, Reckful was clear in updating the community on how much was being spent on the game, all of it from his own pocket. Fans expected to see the game roll out over time, but it appears that the project is no longer in development. Based on Jenna’s comments, it may be that all of Reckful’s funds went towards the development of Everland, only to not finish.
This would not be terribly surprising in the current climate of game development worldwide. With Covid-19 ravaging all manner of industry, the potential to find additional funding for the development of a game is likely now harder than ever, and although Reckful was an outstanding content creator and game player, he was virtually inexperienced in the realm of game development.
For now, we wish Jenna all the best, and hopefully, she won’t need to deal with these vile internet trolls for much longer.
