In Avengers: Tech-On Avengers, the Red Skull has come closer than ever to achieving his goal of total domination, using the Infinity Stones to depower Earth’s heroes and create an army of unstoppable Ultrons!

Set outside the mainstream Marvel Universe, Tech-On Avengers #1 saw the Red Skull, using shards of the shattered Infinity Stones, take the powers of all of Earth’s heroes. With the planet now wide open for attack, the Red Skull unleashes his hordes. Needing a way to combat the Red Skull, who is now more powerful than ever, Tony Stark constructs massive mech suits for the Avengers that mimic their old costumes and powers. In retaliation, the Red Skull, still using the shards of the Infinity Stones, creates mech versions of some of the Avengers greatest villains, such as Loki. Now, in issue four, the Red Skull takes it one step further by creating not only Ultron, but a whole of army of him, all at the Skull’s command. The issue is written by Jim Zub, with art by Jeffrey “Chamba” Cruz and letters by Travis Lanham.

After Red Skull’s devastating attack on Japan, carried out by the mech version of Loki, Captain America and the rest have stayed behind to ensure the threat of the Red Skull is done. Iron Man alerts them that a high level of Infinity Energy has been detected – the Red Skull is making a move. Seconds later, Ultron attacks, only it’s a construct created by the Red Skull. The Captains quickly figure out this isn’t the real Ultron, but just as they do, the Skull brings into life an entire army of Ultrons, setting them loose on the Avengers and Japan. The army of Ultrons proves too much to handle for even the mech Avengers, and only a last minute save by the returning Black Panther, believed to have been killed in a previous issue, is able to stop them.

Very few villains inspire as much fear in the Marvel Universe as Ultron. Since his first appearance nearly 60 years ago, Ultron has been a murderous force of nature, defeated only to return time and again. While the version of Ultron fought by the Avengers in this issue is not the real Ultron, he still has all the deadly instincts, not to mention power, of the original. The Red Skull knows that Ultron strikes great fear into the hearts of the heroes and creates a whole army of them. What is truly terrifying is the Red Skull’s army of Ultrons almost succeed in their goal of ending the Avengers. If Black Panther had not intervened, the Red Skull may have been triumphant, and plans are already underway to create more Infinity-powered villains.

While this story may not be set on Earth-616, it does show what Red Skull would do with ultimate power, constructing a staggering gauntlet to take the Avengers down. Ultron alone has proved almost too much for the Avengers to handle, so how will they cope with the Red Skull’s continued efforts to break down their defenses with an endless supply of their greatest villains?
