There are so many questions and so little answers over Sony’s upcoming PlayStation 5. But, for now, it has been revealed that prominent features from the PS4 – Remote Play and PlayStation Now – will be making their way to the company’s next console, per Twinfinite.

Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida spoke at the company’s recent Corporate Strategy Meeting and highlighted the importance of the PlayStation’s future being “immersive” and “seamless.”

Details of the meeting include confirmation of the two features remaining a part of the PlayStation experience although there isn’t much to go on apart from that.

PlayStation streaming – something both Remote Play and PlayStation Now fall under – will be the focus of the “seamless” aspect. This also seems to suggest that Sony will look to make PlayStation Now accessible to persons who don’t own a PlayStation console.

Such a thing isn’t easily achieved. However, the company’s recent announcement regarding a partnership with Microsoft for streaming services could see to it that persons seeking to land PlayStation Now without having to purchase a console could do so via other means. Sony is also said to be evaluating the user experience in order to determine what players enjoy more from the service. They’re also keen on having Remote Play accessible across more Android devices.

While it may not seem like PlayStation Now is much to talk about, it’s actually making major strides and the company is enjoying the profits thereof. Since its launch in 2014, the number of the service’s subscribers has seen a steady increase of 40 percent.

Shifting back to the PS5, it actually might not be called that at all. Yoshida was not able to disclose an official name for the console but did note that the tFLOPS computational power will see an improvement while the graphics and rendering speed will be “dramatically increased” through the use of customized, ultra-fast broadband SSD.

Also, an audience was shown a demonstration of the differences in loading times between the PS4 pro and the next-gen console. The loading of a scene took 8 seconds on the Pro but just 0.8 seconds on the upcoming device.

Yoshida adds this new console will “greatly exceed” what is possible on the PS4 and PS4 Pro.
