It’s official – the Horizon: Zero Dawn sequel is coming to PS5. A report reveals that the second installment of a proposed trilogy for the open world game is in production.
Horizon: Zero Dawn was released in 2017, and sent players on a journey through a post-apocalyptic world as a warrior named Aloy. The game follows her quest to discover the truth about the machines that rove the earth and her own identity. Horizon: Zero Dawn received praise across the board for its story, visuals, and open world concept. An expansion for the game, The Frozen Winds, was released in November of 2017 and news of a follow up game has been trickling in ever since.
The sequel was originally intended to come out for the PS4 but Sony has since decided to release it for the PS5 This sequel aims to have even more opportunities for exploration than the first installment of this hopeful trilogy, which will only add to one of Horizon: Zero Dawn’s most popular functions.
Guerilla has always had big plans for this franchise and intend to make good on those aspirations going forward. Co-op has been the buzz word in several reports from Sony and Guerilla. At one point, a standalone co-op preview that would feature into the Horizon: Zero Dawn sequel was in talks but it’s uncertain if those plans have bore fruit. There is also word about a co-op feature in the sequel itself, but whether it will be part of the main story mode or something all on its own is still unknown at this point.
Although a lot of things are uncertain today, with COVID-19 gumming up the works, news like this has fans of Aloy and her story hungry for more. The world of Horizon: Zero Dawn, both the story it tells and the actual map, is huge and to hear that there’s even more expansion in store has franchise fans buzzing.
