Stars of The Real Housewives of Potomac agree Candiace Dillard Bassett was out of line with her harsh words about Mia Thornton’s mom. Candiace’s fans often praise the self-proclaimed wordsmith’s shade towards her co-stars, but her latest reads have incited some backlash from viewers for their cruelty. Candiace was recently in hot water with RHOP fans for body-shaming her nemesis Ashley Darby during an argument. In the latest RHOP episode, Candiace fired back at new housewife Mia Thornton with an insult that crossed the line.
Viewers saw Candiace and Mia feud on the latest RHOP episode over Mia shading Candiace’s music video shoot. Mia called the project “low budget,” which led Candiace to strike back. “Your mama’s low budget, watch your mouth,” Candiace said. This insult was not well-received by the rest of the group because of Mia’s family history. The new housewife grew up in foster care due to her mother’s incarceration and substance abuse. Because the other housewives know Mia is working to rebuild her relationship with her mom, the RHOP ladies did not approve of Candiace’s dig.
The housewives criticized Candiace’s low blow on The Real Housewives of Potomac After Show. “Candiace will go too far,” Gizelle Bryant said. “She just goes too freakin’ far.” Robyn Dixon described the jab as a straight-up yo-mama joke gone wrong. Robyn went on to describe Candiace’s debate tactic. “Candiace fights with her words, and she throws daggers, and they sting,” Robyn said, adding that she believed that insult really stung Mia.
Candiace went on to show no remorse for her words in the episode. “There were so many things that I wanted to say,” Candiace reflected on her fight with Mia, adding that she was trying to be a “better person” by not being even more hurtful. “It was a quick quip that, really, I thought was saving her from pain and anguish,” she said. Candiace later said on Twitter she was unaware of Mia’s “mama trauma” at the time she hurled the insult. Gizelle proposed on the After Show that the cast mates leave mamas out of their disputes. Gizelle explained that the Potomac group has enough shade that they can throw at each other about other topics without having to talk about the ladies’ mothers and children.
Candiace and Mia’s drama appears to come to an explosive head on the upcoming episode of The Real Housewives of Potomac. The two housewives seem to be evenly matched as enemies because both women are known for their quick comebacks and feisty personalities. The Potomac ladies don’t often hold back, but Candiace should consider Gizelle’s advice about hitting above the belt with her digs. Candiace, the wordsmith, is too creative to take cheap shots about family.
