As Jen Shah’s arrest plays out on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, it’s being revealed that her issues with the law affected her dynamic with Coach Sharrieff Shah. Following Jen’s March arrest, Sharrieff has been by her side every step of the way. However, it looks like there was some serious drama going on between the couple behind the scenes. Insiders say that Jen has been stressed since she was charged and that the legal problems almost tore apart her marriage.

Back in March, Jen shocked Bravo fans when she was arrested on federal fraud and money laundering charges. After just one season of the newest Real Housewives franchise, Jen was taken into police custody. She was accused of running a nationwide telemarketing scam. If found guilty, Jen faces 20 to 30 years in prison. Most recently, her business partner and fellow defendant Stuart Smith made a move that hinted at him turning on Jen, perhaps in an effort to avoid a lengthy prison sentence. As Jen continues the court process, the aftermath of her arrest is playing out on the show.

Jen and Coach Shah have endured their fair share of drama over the last year. However, nothing could prepare them for the serious criminal charges that Jen is facing. “It’s been a very stressful time,” a source told Us Weekly. The arrest and federal charges have “put a strain on their marriage,” the insider added. At the start of season 2, Jen from RHOSLC opened up, revealing the issues she was having with Sharrieff, and how he considered filing for divorce because of her angry outbursts. However, the move proved to be the shakeup she needed, as it caused her to calm down and gain more control over her emotions.

Now, the pair are in a better space. “Jen and Coach are going strong,” the insider said. The source added, “They are taking it day by day, especially since every day brings something new.” Jen pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in connection with telemarketing, and conspiracy to commit money laundering. Last month, Stuart Smith entered a guilty plea to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering, and obstruction of justice charges. His latest move could work against RHOSLC’s Jen in various ways. However, the Shah family is “processing everything as a family,” the insider claimed.

Jen and Sharrieff share two sons, 27-year-old Sharrieff Jr. and 16-year-old Omar. “[Coach Shah] is there for Jen and is supporting her through all of this,” the insider explained. “They have a lot of love for each other. They’ve been through therapy, which really helped, and now, they are stronger than where they were months ago.” It’s a change from where they were during breaks in filming for seasons 1 and 2. Due to her wild outbursts and tantrums, she made a name for herself in the premiere season. Jen is the only housewife who managed to get into a fight with every other member of the cast. At one point, she even threw water on the production crew while filming a scene in a hot tub.

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City might have to figure out a plan B in the event that Jen goes to prison. Jenny Nguyen came on as a newcomer in season 2 and was bumped up from a friend role to full-time status. Jenny may help to keep the show popular if Jen is hauled off to jail. Luckily, Jen still has Coach Shah by her side.
