Nintendo has embraced DLC during the Switch generation, with a number of first-party titles receiving an Expansion Pass or similar paid content option on the system. One game that would benefit from DLC is Ring-Fit Adventure, as Nintendo is leaving cash on the table by not expanding the game.

Ring-Fit Adventure has become one of the most highly sought after games during the COVID-19 pandemic. People have been stuck at home for months with limited exercise options, which is a situation where Ring-Fit Adventure flourishes, as it gives people the chance to get fit in isolation in a way that is both encouraging and fun. The only problem with this situation is that Ring-Fit Adventure can only be played through physical editions of the game, as it requires the Ring-Con accessory in order to function and Nintendo won’t release the game on the eShop. This means that prices for the game have skyrocketed in recent months, thanks to the crazy levels of demand and the greedy second-hand market.

Ring-Fit Adventure is a surprisingly long game, but it reuses a lot of content when the player finishes their first run. The New Game+ runs limit the player’s options in order to make things more difficult, but very little new content is added to the game. Ring-Fit Adventure would benefit from DLC, as people have had plenty of time to experience everything that the game has to offer over the past few months.

Ring-Fit Adventure DLC should add new worlds and challenges to the game, including exercises and enemies. One of the thrills of the game was exploring the world map and unlocking different stages, and the DLC should go full Super Mario World and include secret paths that can only be found by exploring different routes in the stages. There has already been a free content update that adds a rhythm minigame, with songs from Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and the Wii Fit games. Incorporating these into the main game would be an amazing addition, especially since the soundtrack can get repetitive.

The popularity of Ring-Fit Adventure has taken Nintendo by surprise, which led to president Shuntaro Furukawa apologizing for underestimating the demand and causing shortages of the game. Ring-Fit Adventure has the potential to be one of the biggest games on the Switch, and Nintendo might be tempted to produce sequels with new accessories, but the real cash will come from DLC. Ring-Fit Adventure has a ton of content in the base game, but unique real-life circumstances have led to people seeing everything that the game has to offer in a shorter period of time than normal, so it would benefit a lot from DLC that expands the gameplay in new ways.
