In order to celebrate the release of League of Legends: Wild Rift’s open beta in Europe, Vietnam, Oceania, Taiwan, Turkey, Russia, CIS, Middle East, and North Africa, Riot Games is reportedly planning “something big.” The Los Angeles-based game developer and esports organizer has tweeted a poster titled The Battle of Baron, describing it as a YouTube live experience.

Fans are wondering if the event might be an animated short. To promote League of Legends, Riot has often released animated music videos and cinematic trailers. Players can also expect a development diary to be released shortly before the expansion of the multiplayer online battle arena game.

In League of Legends: Wild Rift, players compete in 15-20 minute long matches in which teams work together to destroy the core building, known as the Nexus, in the enemy team’s base, which can be reached by surmounting a series of defensive turrets or towers. Players gain strength by amassing items and experience during the game. The game is intended to be a simplified version of the original League of Legends for Android and iOS devices, though Riot plans on releasing Wild Rift to consoles in the future.

According to Riot, Wild Rift’s character models and environments have been re-built for the game rather than being ported from League of Legends to ensure “a more polished experience” for mobile platforms.

The studio has also announced a forthcoming single-player turn-based RPG with characters from League titled Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, which is set for release in early 2021 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The game will be the first title developed by Riot Forge, Riot Games’ publishing division.

Other regions like North America, South America, and India can expect open beta launches of Wild Rift next spring. Riot has told fans to keep their eyes open in the coming days for further developments. The regional expansion will begin on December 8 in Oceania, Taiwan, and Vietnam and on December 10 in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, Russia, CIS, and Turkey.
