In Season 1, Riverdale unveiled its key set of characters such as Archie Andrews, Cheryl Blossom, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, and Jughead Jones. These characters have consistently appeared throughout the show and since they were part of the foundation, fans have been heavily invested in their story arcs.

The CW teen drama has continued to introduce new characters in each of the seasons, most of whom have spiced up the events rather than made them bland. All the characters that joined the show after the inaugural season had lasting impacts on either Riverdale High or on Riverdale as a town.

10 Hiram Lodge

The CEO of Lodge Industries is not only a great businessman but a criminal mastermind too. He monopolizes Riverdale by purchasing all the important businesses. He then becomes Mayor before dissolving Riverdale of its township altogether.

Lodge’s character development beats that of many other characters. For a man who was in prison before the series began, he has done extremely well for himself. The antagonist is a clear example of just how much one person’s selfishness can ruin everyone else’s lives. The constant clashes with his own family make for great viewing and so does his ability to come up with new schemes every day.

9 Toni Topaz

The member of the Southside Serpents is close to Jughead Jones. She also has one of the best relationships on the show with former river vixens head Cheryl Blossom.

Toni’s positive outlook towards life makes her one of the best LGBTQ characters on TV. She’s an easy presence for viewers to route for, because of her love for truth and justice. Toni is also compassionate, and empathetic, with an ability to perceive when others are in pain. She is able to see through Cheryl’s “mean girl” persona and realize that she is actually suffering inside.

8 Fangs Forgaty

Fangs has had some flattering character arcs in the teen drama. These include being in an open relationship with Kevin and being one of the main suspects in Midge’s murder. He is then presumed dead for a while only to turn up alive and well.

What makes Fangs interesting is that his mannerisms keep on changing throughout the show. At first, he is portrayed as a cowardly gang member, even running when Archie pulls a gun on Sweet Pea. After joining the cultish gang, The Farm, he becomes villainous, going as far as to drag Betty across the floor, although he gets back to his senses again. Fangs is also one of the most loyal characters, whether it’s to his lovers or to his friends.

7 Tabitha Tate

Riverdale The 10 Best Characters Introduced After Season 1

The inclusion of Pope Tate’s granddaughter is one of the main differences between Riverdale and the Archie comics since she is a show-exclusive character. Tabitha is keen on getting into the Forbes list someday. She quits a six-figure job in Chicago and comes to Riverdale to run Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe. She has dreams of turning the diner into one of America’s biggest restaurant chains.

Tabitha has proven to be a better businessperson than her grandfather Pope. She is keener on the finances, evident through her “no running tabs” policy. She is also careful about whom she employs. She denies Jughead a job because he isn’t qualified. However, she is empathetic too since she later employs him out of pity when debt collectors come after him.

6 Midge

Riverdale The 10 Best Characters Introduced After Season 1

Midge has one of the saddest character deaths in Riverdale when she gets murdered by Hal Cooper aka The Black Hood after being cast to play ”Carrie White” in a school musical. The death is more devastating because viewers thought she was safe after she survived an earlier run-in with the same villain.

The best storylines focusing on Midge revolve around her relationship with Moose Mason. He literally catches bullets for her when The Black Hood attempts to kill her the first time. Sadly, she cheats on him with Fangs. Nevertheless, Midge is good-hearted, friendly, and supportive. She helps Kevin deal with stress and is also there for Moose after the shooting.

5 Chic

Chic is a master impersonator. He pretends to be Charles Smith, a lie that stays alive for a while. After being mentored by Penelope Blossom, he becomes the Gargoyle King persona.

Chic is a good impersonator because he knows how to switch his emotions in an instant. He lies and manipulates with ease. as seen during his time at the Cooper home. His actions, such as staring creepily at a sleeping Betty, keep viewers on the edge of their seats. The show constantly hints at him committing a murder though he mostly refrains from this.

4 Sister Woodhouse

Sister Agatha Woodhouse oversees the Sisters of Quiet Mercy group home. Though she presents herself as a righteous woman, Woodhouse is revealed to be evil.

Sister Woodhouse incorporates horror and thriller elements into the show. She terrorizes her patients, locking them up and forcing them to ingest Fizzle Rocks in order to trigger hallucinations in them. She is very secretive too and this is best demonstrated when Betty Cooper tries to get some answers from her.

3 Jellybean Jones

Jellybean is a no-nonsense girl and this stems from the way her mother raised her. Like her mother, she has been a con artist at some point in her life. She loves rock bands and movies, making her a fun character to hang out with. The only unfortunate thing about her is that her crush on Archie never leads anywhere, making it one of the storylines the show dropped.

2 Sweet Pea

Riverdale The 10 Best Characters Introduced After Season 1

Sweet Pea is anything but sweet. The Southside Serpents member hates the Northside and as a result, he is more than glad to engage in battles against the Red Circle and the Riverdale Bulldogs.

Pea is prone to violent outbursts but that’s part of his appeal. His loyalty to the Southside Serpents is remarkable too. It makes him seem firm and assured at all times, compared to other characters who tend to be conflicted. he believes it’s the greatest gang of all time hence he couldn’t understand why Jughead was reluctant to join it. Though his temperament gets out of hand, he has been shown to be forgiving and compassionate.

1 Munroe “Mad Dog” Moore

One of Archie’s best friends, Munroe “Mad Dog” Moore, is a skilled fighter. He spends most of his early life in prison but Archie comes up with a plan to blackmail the Governor and get Mad Dog pardoned.

As a member of Warden Norton’s illegal fight club and Elio Grande’s team, Mad Dog contributes to some of the teen drama’s best action sequences. When he is not throwing fists and kicks, Mad Dog is a calm individual. Among Archie’s friends, he appears to be the one who values him the most, since if it wasn’t for him, he’d still be behind bars.
