The Crash Bandicoot franchise has seen a large rejuvenation of sorts in recent years, due to the releases of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. Now, there is a rumor circulating that a new Crash game by the name of Crash Bandicoot Worlds will be announced soon.

As per Reddit user MonHun, the game is being developed by Toys For Bob, who developed Spyro Reignited Trilogy. The prolific developer also helped bring Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy to Nintendo Switch, PC, and Xbox One a year after its release on PlayStation 4. Crash Bandicoot Worlds, which has been shown “behind closed doors,” is also being developed by Vicarious Visions and will be officially announced next month.

MonHun provides a description of an unreleased Crash Bandicoot Worlds video called “It’s Time To Play,” along with some bus poster images that “come from the new game coming in 2020.” The game was initially called “CRASH8,” but was later changed to Crash Bandicoot Worlds.

MonHun states that there will be three new masks, including a lunar mask, a sun mask, and an eclipse mask. Crash will “travel around the planet Earth in a semi-open world” – comparable to Super Mario 3D World. The Reddit user also mentions new enemies, including a “hybrid cat-frog, a rhino, a wombat and a rapper monkey.”

MonHun is very descriptive in their discussion of Crash Bandicoot Worlds, so it’s highly convincing that this is in existence. Further, an earnings call within Activision earlier this year indicated that the publisher would be working toward developing more titles for franchises like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro. As such, Crash Bandicoot Worlds is very sensible.

The fact that these older franchises are coming back in a big way is exciting for children of the ’90s. The 3D platformer is having a bit of a moment, between Yooka-Laylee and the recent remakes, so the new content that seems to be heading gamers’ way is exciting.
