A new report claims a Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit remaster is one of the three unannounced EA games coming to Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo Switch owners have been questioning why Electronic Arts hasn’t paid more attention to their innovative corner of the console world. Well, last week, EA confirmed that it has been shifting more of its focus to the Switch. Seven titles will be headed to the handheld console over the course of the next 12 months.
The first of those titles, Burnout Paradise, was released last week. Early indications appear to show that the remaster has gone down well with those who have played it. EA has also confirmed Apex Legends will be released on Switch later this year, followed by FIFA 21, and Lost In Random. So what about the three unnamed titles?
According to a report from VentureBeat, one of those three will be in the same vein as the Burnout Paradise remaster. A remastered version of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. The site claims to have been told about the NFS remaster by an unnamed source familiar with EA’s release slate. According to that same source, the other two games making up the seven will be Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville, and a game from Velan Studios.
No offense to those latter two games, but even the mere mention of a Hot Pursuit remake is the one of the three that has generated the most chatter. Not only is the cop-chasing based chapter in the NFS franchise perhaps the last time the racing game really made a splash but for many, it’s the best installment in NFS history. That’ll be why it’s a strong contender to get the remaster treatment.
If news of a Hot Pursuit remaster is true, it will be interesting to see if it is a Switch exclusive. Considering how popular it would be, and based on Burnout Paradise remastered getting released across multiple platforms, probably not. EA would be eliminating massive amounts of potential sales by doing that. As for the NFS fans waiting for an NFS Underground remaster, it seems as if they will remain disappointed for the time being.
