A new report suggests that Sony will be holding its follow-up State of Play event in early August. The leak comes from well-known scooper Roberto Serrano, who had previously announced the last State of Play on June 11th, in which the PlayStation 5 system itself was revealed, in addition to several interesting titles. The purported times and date for the upcoming live event are set for Thursday, August 6th at 1 PM PT/ 4 PM ET and can be watched via YouTube, Twitch, and even on the PS4 console itself.

Serrano is the same individual who reported that the PS5’s pre-orders and price would be revealed last week, and while this may not have happened as he had claimed, Sony may be waiting for more interest to grow. With rumors and leaks regarding the PS5 coming in droves, it’s possible Sony is gearing up for some sort of world-freezing show soon enough.

From the news that Sony has ramped up console production to the backlog sourcecode leaks revolving around PS5 pre-orders, it’s pretty obvious both demand and PR is on the mind of many Sony executives right about now. For Sony fans, the showcase can’t come any sooner and that itch for any sign of a preorder page is starting to dig even deeper into psyches.

But, what about the games? Thus far, as shown in the last State of Play, a handful of new and old arrivals will be making their debut on the next-gen system. From the very Kojima-esque Pragmata to the highly-anticipated Demon’s Souls Remake, the setlist of games for the PlayStation 5 is already well-stacked (and is most assuredly far more well-rounded behind the scenes). This forthcoming State of Play just might be that nail in the coffin needed for Sony to prove their system’s validity and its promise for the near future, both in terms of graphical fidelity and, of course, exclusives. Next-gen gameplay will be at the forefront of every gamer’s mind.

Other leaks prove that Sony is making waves in many different ways. Pictured in the above Tweet is a PC retailer with a newly-built PS5 testing station. Though it’s not confirming anything just yet, it does shed some light on the fact that Sony wants nothing more than to beat out Microsoft in its next-gen console release. Still, no price point reveal, nor even a glimpse at the next-gen console’s UI proves Sony has a lot to show for in the upcoming months.

The Xbox Games Showcase is slated for Thursday, July 23, and will be inviting superstar exclusives, like Halo Infinite and potentially even a Fable sequel. It will be interesting to see how Sony answers Microsoft’s live event and what kind of guns they have prepared to reveal amid their own State of Play, if said rumors are true, of course.

Keep your eyes peeled for any form of announcements made by Sony in the coming weeks.
