Rune Factory 5 isn’t out on Switch in the west until next year, but the physical version of its Limited Edition is no longer exclusive to Japan. In announcements from European publisher Marvelous and North American-based XSeed Games, fans learned that the next Rune Factory will launch in the aforementioned regions on March 25, 2022, with a collector’s edition similar to the Japan version from earlier this year.
In Japan, Marvelous debuted its premium box set back in May which included an art book, sample OST, bonus costumes, and a copy of the game all packaged in a special box. The 2022 release will include all of that, plus a steelbook case as a bonus. For folks in the UK, you’ll also score a limited Wooly bag tag if you pre-order from Game, while other parts of Europe will see the same deal at participating retailers.
As for those of you outside of Europe, it looks like you may be missing out on your own Wooly, but pre-orders aren’t up in North America just yet. When they do go live, they’ll be in the official XSeed Games store as the “Earthmate Edition.” If you aren’t into collecting physical goods, the costume pack will be available in a digital deluxe package that features outfits from Rune Factory 4.
Rune Factory 5 has been out in Japan for a while, and won’t make its debut until ten months after its original release. Thanks to its marketing cycle there, we’ve already gotten extra peeks at its new marriage candidates and systems outside of the English language trailer.
Publisher XSeed also confirmed that Rune Factory 5 will feature a series first for gay marriage. Romance options are no longer gender-locked, and a new trailer showed a moment between the RPG’s female protagonist and her bride.
Last year, Rune Factory 4 saw a rerelease on Switch after its original launch on the 3DS in the form of Rune Factory 4 Special. Despite its age, the remaster found its way onto some 2020 GOTY lists from TheGamer, and seems to hold up to modern expectations.
