Fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race know that iconic queens might have been eliminated first on the show, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t stars now.

It has become a well-known tradition among RuPaul’s Drag Race fans to remember and celebrate the contestants who happened to be eliminated first on their seasons. From Victoria “Porkchop” Parker to Vanessa Vanjie Mateo, we’ve seen several iconic queens stumble on Drag Race but succeed as a drag queen after appearing on the show.

Over time, it has been proven that going home first doesn’t really mean anything, as you could’ve just had a bad week. If you loved some of the queens who were sent home first on Drag Race and are wondering where they are, this is the time to find out!

13 Victoria “Porkchop” Parker

Victoria “Porkchop” Parker is the original first-eliminated queen of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Given the circumstances of being eliminated in the first episode of the first season of Drag Race, RuPaul tried his hardest to keep the Porkchop name alive. During several of the finales on later seasons, Ru deliberately called out Porkchop by name – a rare gesture from the host.

As of late, Victoria “Porkchop” Parker has been hard at work. For instance, the queen appeared on E!’s Botched and was crowned Miss DragCon in 2018. Moreover, Porkchop was one of the Drag Race queens who made a cameo on Netflix’s AJ and the Queen in 2020.

12 Shangela

Many Drag Race fans are well aware of Shangela’s whereabouts, as she has become one of the most successful queens in the history of the franchise.

Since being the first eliminated contestant on season 2, Shangela came back to compete on season 3 and on All Stars 3. Outside of the RuPaul’s Drag Race universe, Shangie has appeared in 2018’s A Star Is Born starring Lady Gaga, provided vocals for Ariana Grande’s “NASA” song, and became the first-ever drag queen to walk the Oscar red carpet.

11 Venus D-Lite

Venus D-Lite had to face off Shangela in the very first Lip Sync For Your Life on season 3, and this time, it was Shangie’s time to stay. The self-described “#1 Madonna impersonator” has fully embraced that side of her drag since being on Drag Race.

In 2020, Venus commemorated her 18th anniversary of doing drag. The queen has been hard at work since appearing on RuPaul’s Drag Race, occasionally attending DragCon events and making appearances on later seasons of the show. When it comes to additional TV work, Venus D-Lite has appeared on Skin Wars and E!’s Botched.

10 Alisa Summers

She may have been the first eliminated queen on season 4 of Drag Race, but Alisa Summers has been nothing but hard-working since appearing on the show. Nowadays, Alisa is based off of Tampa, FL and hosts several weekly events in the city, including brunches, parties, and drag shows.

Unfortunately, we’re still waiting to see more of Alisa Summers on TV. Given that RuPaul called her “a queen for all seasons,” we wouldn’t rule out that she could be brought back to the franchise at some point.

9 Penny Tration

Drag Race gave fans the chance to vote on Facebook for a contestant to join the season 5 cast. The most-voted queen happened to be Penny Tration, who then joined the season among the likes of Jinkx Monsoon, Alaska, Detox, Roxxxy Andrews, and Alyssa Edwards. Unfortunately, Penny turned out to go home first.

In 2020, Penny Tration is still booked and busy, working across the country on different drag shows and events. On occasion, Penny has also attended DragCon events, as well as hosted RuPaul’s Drag Race viewing parties at local bars.

8 Kelly Mantle

Kelly Mantle was already a working actress before getting on season 6 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. However, unlike Willam on season 4, Kelly wasn’t able to get very far during her season.

Nonetheless, Kelly Mantle has booked several jobs on TV since being on the show, including cameos on Lucifer and Modern Family. Besides her TV credits, Kelly has focused on hosting and comedy gigs that bring out her great sense of humor.

7 Magnolia Crawford

On the second part of the season 6 premiere, Magnolia Crawford was sent home. Since being on the show, Reynolds Engelhart (out-of-drag Magnolia Crawford) has done several creative projects. For instance, he has spearheaded the “Portrait of a Lady” photography series, where he touches up the pictures of different celebrities and Drag Race stars in a particular style.

Despite the fact that Magnolia Crawford is still booked on occasion for drag gigs, it certainly seems that the queen has taken a back seat for other creative works from Reynolds Engelhart.

6 Tempest DuJour

When Tempest DuJour was sent home first on season 7 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, it was a true gag for everyone who watched it. After all, Tempest had been a very famous and beloved queen for many years, and her early departure didn’t make a lot of sense.

Thankfully, being eliminated first on Drag Race didn’t slow down Tempest DuJour in any way. Since being on the show, Tempest has worked nonstop on several drag parties and events. The queen was also featured in an episode of Drag Race season 10.

5 Naysha Lopez

The judges loved Naysha Lopez so much that, after eliminating the queen first on season 8, they brought her back to compete again that season. Unfortunately, she was promptly eliminated yet again, and we weren’t able to see more from Naysha on TV ever since.

Thankfully, her time on Drag Race didn’t stop Naysha Lopez from being a fierce queen in any way. Outside of the RuPaul’s Drag Race universe, she is a very fierce pageant queen with years of experience and a busy schedule.

4 Jaymes Mansfield

No one was eliminated in the very first episode of season 9, but Jaymes Mansfield turned out to be the first-eliminated contestant during that season of Drag Race. After going home, Jaymes stayed true to her character and kept making videos for YouTube, which is what she was best known for.

On the Jaymes Mansfield YouTube channel, the queen provides a myriad of interviews and hair tutorials, transforming all types of wigs into great headpieces for drag queens to wear.

3 Vanessa Vanjie Mateo

RuPaul’s Drag Race was changed forever when Vanessa Vanjie Mateo sashayed away from the runway saying her iconic “Miss Vanjie” catchphrase. She became so memorable that the show promptly brought her back for season 11, where she made it all the way to the Top 5.

Since being on Drag Race, Miss Vanjie has become one of the most famous drag queens in the world. As of late, Vanessa Vanjie Mateo is booked at the RuPaul’s Drag Race Live residency at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas.

2 Soju

Soju came to Drag Race season 11 as a YouTuber who happens to be a superfan of the franchise. Unfortunately, all her knowledge didn’t exactly help, and she was the first contestant to go home that year.

Thankfully, Soju worked very hard after being eliminated from the show. Besides her ongoing YouTube channel called Shot With Soju, the queen has been best known for her Seoul Train events, which feature Asian drag performers and K-pop music.

1 Dahlia Sin

Dahlia Sin is the latest addition to the first-eliminated queen title on Drag Race. A member of the Haus of Aja, Dahlia is one of the most popular contestants from season 12 on social media, and seems to be forging a path similar to season 9 contestant Farrah Moan.

As her momentum of being on Drag Race grows, Dahlia Sin has been booked on different gigs and been involved in different photoshoots. Given how popular she’s become, it wouldn’t be surprising to see her compete on an All Stars season in the future.
