Shangela is one of the most renowned drag queens to ever grace the Werk Room of RuPaul’s Drag Race. She had joined Drag Race originally in season 2 after doing drag for only five months. After being the first queen eliminated from the competition, she became the first to ever be brought back to the show for another season. She starred on two more seasons of Drag Race, season 3 and All Stars 3, making outstanding comebacks in both that were full of memorable moments.

While she’s one of the more famous Drag Race contestants, Shangela has made an incredible name for herself outside of the show as well. She has landed roles on popular shows and movies like Glee, Community, A Star Is Born, and many more. Her commercial career success is thanks in part to her iconic presence on Drag Race, including the delivery of all of her hilarious, unforgettable quotes.

9 “Five, Six, Seven, Eight. I Am Gonna Get A Date!”

After being unfairly eliminated on season 2 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Shangela proved herself worthy of her season 3 comeback during that season’s commercial challenge. The product she created was called the Halleloola Hoop, a reference to her signature catchphrases. Shangela marketed the product as a hula hoop to help boost confidence.

During the filming of her commercial, Shangela was high-energy and full of hilarious one-liners, one of them being, “One, two, three, four. I don’t wanna whore no more! Five, six, seven, eight. I am gonna get a date!” This chant was not only catchy but quite effective in getting the advertising across, which was the crux of the challenge.

8 “They Call Me LaQuifa.”

Later on in season 3, the contestants were tasked with creating stand-up-comedy routines to perform for a live audience, including the judges. Shangela’s was among the most memorable of the episode as she took on a persona named LaQuifa.

Her entire routine was hilarious and full of quotable moments. She joked about being her own pimp due to the recession and even incorporated her outfit into the comedy. Proviing herself a gifted comic, Shangela was wise enough to build a catchphrase into her act — “They said, ‘Laquifa!’ I said, ‘What?!'” — and it was the best part of the performance. 7 “Jump In The Ocean. You Won’t Drown; Silicone Floats.”

Shangela has had some of the best and shadiest reading challenge lines in Drag Race history, one of those being her comment to fellow queen Carmen Carrera in season 3. Referring to the plastic surgery Carmen had done, Shangela told her, “Jump in the ocean. You don’t drown; silicone floats.”

This line made both RuPaul and fellow queens burst out in laughter. This was just one of Shangela’s many hilarious reads in that episode alone.

6 “Mimi Imfurst.”

Once again during the season 3 reading challenge, Shangela came through with one of the shadiest reads of all. Addressing Delta Work, Shangela simply stated, “Mimi Imfurst.” Mimi Imfurst was another contestant on season 3, known for being disliked by fellow contestants and quite unsuccessful during her Drag Race runs.

By calling Delta Work the name of another infamous drag queen (one who’d already been eliminated from the competition by that point) the other queens knew what Shangela meant, and no elaboration was needed for the line to result in abrupt laughter. This led Shangela to rightfully take the win during season 3’s reading challenge.

5 “I Don’t Know Why They Call It Menopause. There Ain’t No Men Up In It.”

Shangela had one of the best RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars redemption arcs of all time. After being away from the competition for so long, she came back with a powerful punch for the competition and was incredibly successful on the All Stars 3. This was very evident during the Snatch Game episode when Shangela impersonated actress Jennifer Lewis.

The entire Snatch Game performance was hilarious and a great imitation of the highly regarded actress, though perhaps the most memorable line is when she addressed Lewis’ age by stating, “I don’t know why they call it menopause. There ain’t no men up in it.” The implied lack of intimacy was what drove this joke home, fitting right in with the sexual innuendos often made during Drag Race.

4 “I Am The Nancy Drew Of Drag.”

Shangela is no stranger to unforgettable Drag Race Untucked moments, one of them being during the hair runway challenge of season 3. The queens had to construct an outfit using only hair and wig products, and no other materials were to be used. During Untucked after the runway, it was brought to Shangela’s attention that Raja had unfairly used tulle to help construct her dress.

Shangela was determined to get to the bottom of the controversy from then on. During a confessional, she said, “I am the Nancy Drew of drag,” and proceeded to investigate for the truth. She started up a casual conversation with Raja without directly asking about the dress. Shangela was able to spin the conversation until Raja ended up admitting herself that she did in fact use tulle, proving Shangela right in claiming to be somewhat of a detective.

3 “Is The Bus Still Running?”

It was a major deal that Shangela returned to All Stars 3 after being brought back to the competition already for season 3. Because she had been away from the competition for so long, she had a lot to prove to the judges. She came through on the first episode of All Stars 3 during her variety show performance in which she served a fierce dance and lip-sync.

At the end of her variety show performance, her final line was, “Ru, is the bus still running?” Immediately after, she delivered an eye-popping death drop. The line implied that she had completed her performance, meaning that she was ready to get off stage and hypothetically catch a bus. To deliver this line before such an iconic death drop made the moment so much more powerful, proving that Shangie was in the competition to stay, not to leave.

2 “Halleloo!”

A list of Shangela quotes would be incomplete without her most well-known catchphrase: “Halleloo!” She has been known to declare this many times throughout her multiple-season stint on RuPaul’s Drag Race. It has become a staple for Shangela, who uses it for nearly any circumstance it can fit into.

Mimi claimed that Shangela had a sugar daddy who bought all of her looks for her, and Shangela retorted with one of the most memorable lines ever spoken on Drag Race.

“I don’t have a sugar daddy. I’ve never had a sugar daddy. If I wanted a sugar daddy, yes, I could probably go out and get one because I am what? Sickening! You could never have a sugar daddy because you are not that kind of girl.” Shangela threw her drink at Mimi to drive the point home. This Shangela moment is truly one of the most unforgettable of them all to fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
