There is no doubt that RuPaul’s Drag Race UK has been a major success for the franchise – not only among the fans in the United Kingdom who watched the series on the BBC but also among viewers around the world who caught up on the show through the WOW Presents Plus streaming service. Unsurprisingly, Drag Race UK has already been picked up for a second season.

Now that the season 1 is over, we can confidently say that this first year of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK has been one of the most successful installments of the entire franchise. The U.K. queens not only brought all their charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent, but they also introduced to the franchise a sensibility that felt uniquely theirs.

SPOILER ALERT: The following article contains spoilers for RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, including details about the finale, the winner of the season, and the queens who were eliminated.

10 BAGA’S PERFORMANCE IN DOWNTON DRAGGY

It was during the “Downton Draggy” episode that Baga Chipz started to stand out as a formidable contender on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, ultimately winning that challenge for her campy and hilarious portrayal of a maid.

Despite the fact that many queens in the U.S. editions of Drag Race seem to struggle with the acting challenged posed by the franchise, the U.K. queens certainly displayed a much more elevated sense of acting. With that said, Baga Chipz still stood out with “much better” performance and outrageously funny makeup.

9 THE SNATCH GAME

Across the board, the first-ever Snatch Game on Drag Race UK displayed some of the most iconic performances we have ever seen in the franchise. Even queens who didn’t do very well, like Sum Ting Wong, did not entirely fail in the way that we’ve seen on past seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

As Michelle Visage put it, The Vivienne’s Donald Trump was one of the best impersonations in the history of the franchise, and Baga Chipz’s Margaret Thatcher was not far behind. The interactions between this pair of politicians were so funny that WOW Presents Plus even greenlit a brand-new series, The Morning T&T, for 2020, in which Viv’s Trump and Baga’s Thatcher will star.

8 CRYSTAL FREAKING OUT GINGER SPICE

During the “Weird Science” runway theme, Crystal served some excitingly scary Dragula realness on Drag Race UK. The queen’s very on-theme look was undoubtedly fascinating and visually appealing, and the aesthetic was elevated even higher once Crystal started drilling into the outfit, sending sparks flying all over her face.

The guest judge of the episode was Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice in the Spice Girls), and let’s just say that she was pretty freaked out by Crystal’s runway performance. All in all, it was definitely hilarious and exciting to watch a drag queen freak out none other than a Spice Girl.

7 THE CAMEOS FROM RAVEN AND KATYA

RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Raven (season 2 and All Stars 1) and Katya (season 7 and All Stars 2) made very unexpected and exciting cameos on Drag Race UK. Although brief, Raven and Katya certainly brought their wit and charm to the episodes they were featured, making old fans of the show excited to see them there.

Because Raven has been responsible for RuPaul’s makeup on Drag Race since season 9, the queen was actually there on set the entire time. Katya, however, was likely in the United Kingdom for other reasons, and was then invited to come to set and have a chat with the mini-challenge winner that week (Divina De Campo).

6 CHERYL HOLE MEETING (AND PERFORMING FOR) CHERYL

The entire premise of the Cheryl Hole character is being a ‘new money’ Essex girl who is obsessed with girl groups. The queen’s name, of course, is a play on the name of Cheryl the popstar, who came from the girl band Girls Aloud and went by Cheryl Cole for many years during her solo career.

Given that Cheryl Hole had never met Cheryl in person, it was certainly special and exciting to watch the two to meet on Drag Race UK. Despite the fact that Cheryl Hole landed in the Bottom Two that week, she did prevail on the Lip Sync For Your Life, giving a solid performance of Cheryl’s “Call My Name” and staying for another week.

5 THE FROCK DESTROYERS’ PERFORMANCE

One of the fiercest moments from the first season of Drag Race UK was definitely the girl group challenge that gave us the Frock Destroyers and their rendition of “Break Up (Bye Bye).” The Frock Destroyers was composed of Divina De Campo, Blu Hydrangea, and Baga Chipz, and their version of “Break Up (Bye Bye)” reached the #2 spot on the iTunes best-selling singles chart following its release.

Divina, Blu, and Baga’s performance as a girl group was so strong that many Drag Race fans are now pulling for the Frock Destroyers to represent the United Kingdom during the next Eurovision contest. Nonetheless, we still got a new iconic moment for the RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise to be remembered by.

4 DIVINA DE CAMPO’S WHISTLE TONES SHOCKING MNEK

We certainly already knew that Divina De Campo could sing, as the queen had referenced her previous appearances on shows like The Voice UK. However, we definitely didn’t know the full extent of her vocal range, which was put on display during the girl group challenge.

During the recording of the Frock Destroyers’ version of “Break Up (Bye Bye),” Divina showed off her incredible whistle tones to singer MNEK, who stood there in complete shock and admiration. This moment, which proved once again that Divina De Campo is a queen of many talents, also became an instant online meme that transcended the Drag Race fandom.

3 ANDREW GARFIELD AS A GUEST JUDGE

The RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise has had many guest judges over the course of more than ten years. With that said, actor Andrew Garfield’s appearance as the first-ever guest judge on Drag Race UK is definitely one for the books.

As a special guest judge on the very first episode of Drag Race UK, Andrew Garfield was funny, witty, charming, and completely willing to play within the sandbox that RuPaul has created for the show. A self-described super-fan of the series, Andrew gave the queens thoughtful advice and surprisingly stood out as the first season’s very best guest judge.

2 THE ELIMINATED QUEENS COMING BACK

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK 10 Best Moments From Season 1

On standard RuPaul’s Drag Race seasons, we typically see the queens reunite one last time for a special reunion episode. On Drag Race UK, however, there was no reunion episode, prompting the production team to instead have the eliminated queens come back for the finale.

The gag of seeing the eliminated queens back for the Drag Race UK finale was that it all felt very similar to All Stars 3 – when the contestants who had sashayed away got to choose the Top 2 queens of the season. Fortunately, this was not the case here, and we got to see our beloved U.K. queens simply reminiscing on their time on the show and kiki-ing.

1 THE TOP 3’S “ROCK IT (TO THE MOON)” REMIX

It has now become a staple in the RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise for the Top 4 (or Top 3) queens of the season to be featured on the remix of a RuPaul song. For Drag Race UK, The Vivienne, Divina De Campo, and Baga Chipz had to write verses for a remix of “Rock It (To The Moon),” which they then had to lip sync and dance to on stage.

The “Rock It (To The Moon)” remix performance by the Drag Race UK finalists was definitely a very exciting one to watch. Baga Chipz stumbled with the choreography but ultimately sold the judges on her campiness. Divina De Campo dazzled with a very difficult choreography, all while having a strong verse. The Vivienne ultimately redeemed herself from a poor performance on the girl group challenge, serving what was arguably the best performance of the night.

And just like that, The Vivienne was crowned the first-ever Drag Race UK winner. All hail The Viv!
