The next Super Smash Bros. is coming. Nintendo announced Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at E3. Many things regarding the game were unveiled – including that every playable character in Smash Bros. history is returning. After the Direct and Nintendo Treehouse, Nintendo hosted an Invitational Tournament. Famous players were invited. It came down to ZeRo and MKLeo, with the former taking home the trophy. Masahiro Sakurai, the game’s director well known for overworking himself, congratulated ZeRo and the other contestants. In his closing statements, he made known the game was still in development, and that he actually saw a few bugs while watching the tournament.

Sakurai: “I did find already two or three bugs while watching this tournament. I’ll be sure to fix it in the production version.” Note: because Sakurai speaks in Japanese, these comments were made into English by a translator at the tournament. The Smash Bros. creator continues: “This game is constantly being adjusted and the balancing is constantly adjusted during development, and as you learn the new rules for this game, I think what you can do with this game will change as well.”

Sakurai ends his core speech, saying he has to take a midnight flight back to Japan and get back to work: “So with that said, I need to go back home to Japan and get working so I’m going to take a midnight flight tonight and start work tomorrow morning.” If there’s one thing that can be said about Sakurai, it’s that he’s dedicated to passionate work.

Sakurai didn’t mention exactly what bugs he saw. Could it be that he saw how Bayonetta was still a bit overpowered, and that’s the first thing he aims to fix? We probably won’t know until release day. In the meantime, fans can keep absorbing all the news on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Many are still marveling at the fact that 65 fighters are in the game, which is probably a record in the modern era. Ridley is one of the newcomers, and one that fans have been wanting for years. Inkling was technically unveiled in the game’s first trailer, but now she (and the boy version) are officially confirmed as playable. Their moveset looks like it does Splatoon justice. Princess Daisy will also be appearing. Many classic stages are coming back, such as Princess Peach’s Castle and Melee’s Kongo Jungle.

Sadly, there isn’t an eShop demo to try out the game. However, for those not attending E3, Smash Bros. Ultimate is available to play at Nintendo NY during this week. The last day one can stop by and play is Friday, June 15th. Nintendo invites those interested to line up at 7am. The game is playable at 9am, when the store opens, and presumably goes all day.
