Samsung introduced a new UV Sterilizer device equipped with wireless charging. The device allows users to quickly disinfect their heavily used items, such as smartphones, headphones, keys, or sunglasses. This technology comes to light at a pertinent time, considering the global COVID-19 pandemic that has led to the constant cleaning and disinfecting of items becoming part of the new normal.

The sterilizing device was originally revealed by Samsung for sale in Thailand only, but has since been announced globally, and is gradually becoming more readily available. Samsung appears to be the next major tech brand developing technology to clean and sterilize its electronic devices. Similar devices had started popping up on online retailers, including Amazon, as recently as last March, further highlighting the clear demand in the market for products like this.

Samsung revealed that the UV Sterilizer works with the push of a single button, and completely disinfects its contents from top to bottom in ten minutes. According to Samsung’s announcement, “The UV Sterilizer effectively kills up to 99% of bacteria and germs, including E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans, according to tests done by two independent test and certification institutes, Intertek and SGS.” With dual UV lights, the Sterilizer disinfects both sides of any devices placed within it. The simple and sleek design allows device owners to use it nearly anywhere. In addition to keeping devices 99 percent germ free, Samsung also included the ability for the UV Sterilizer to wirelessly charge devices at the same time. While the device does automatically shut off its UV light after ten minutes, it will continue to wirelessly charge a Samsung phone, or any other device that supports Qi wireless charging. This sounds like an ideal accessory to have during this trying time.

Where Can You Buy Samsung’s UV Sterilizer & How Much Is It?

While Samsung has announced this product globally, it is not yet available as such. So far, the Ultraviolet Sterilizer is available on Samsung store pages in Thailand, Hong Kong, Germany, and Romania. In Thailand, the item is listed at ฿1,590.00 (Thai Baht) which equals around $51 USD, but on Samsung’s German page, the same item is listed at €58 which converts to roughly $66 in USD terms. With that said, U.S. buyers can expect the device to cost somewhere around this price range when it inevitably makes its debut in Samsung stores stateside.

To that note, there is no specific date when the Sterilizer may become available in the United States. However, Samsung’s decision to announce the rolling out of this product globally just weeks after initially announcing it for Thailand indicates that Samsung users in many countries should be able to get their properly washed hands on one in the near future. Hopefully it’s be sooner rather than later to ensure Samsung loyalists can keep all their devices bacteria and germ free.
