Simultaneously endearing and silly, the strange adventures of Mystery Incorporated helped iconize the five main characters. With the exception of the early ’80s, otherwise known as the dark Scrappy-Doo era; the gang consists of Fred, Velma, Daphne, Shaggy, and Scooby-Doo. The latter two might be the most beloved, but each member has contributed to the franchise’s charm. Instantly recognizable and bouncing off each other like seasoned veterans, Mystery Inc. continues to inspire endless of fan tributes. Presented as independent teenagers capable of taking care of themselves and, occasionally, rescuing a town or two; how could a young kid not gravitate towards Scooby-Doo?

26 Scooby-Doo, Blowing In The Wind
Including the recent Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!, the franchise has spawned a dozen unique incarnations. Bear in mind that number is only taking into account TV series. If the parameters were expanded to incorporate the animated and live-action movies, comics, and video-games; the final figure would be a lot closer to fifty! In spite of the overabundance of Great Dane shaped content available to consume, in general, anyone reminiscing about Scooby-Doo is referring to the version that started it all. Stretching across an absurdly long period, Cartoon Network and Boomerang aired repeats of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!. As a result, later generations were extended the privilege of experiencing the joy of mystery solving. Sadly, times have changed and the networks have their hands full with around the clock screenings of Teen Titans Go!
Paying tribute to a childhood favorite, Walter-Ostlie twisted the Scooby gang to suit his own personal style. While Fred and Daphne try to out-hair each other; Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby are merely waiting for any hint of adventure. Overall, the redesign is pretty great and fits the personality of the teenagers, although Shaggy seems to have found a bit of an edge. After Sabrina the Teenage Witch is done and dusted, Netflix should consider giving Scooby-Doo the reboot treatment!
25 Same Scooby, Different Time
Do things ever truly change? Using Hanna-Barbera’s long-running franchise as a test subject, Scooby-Doo has rarely deviated from its original formula. Forever stuck in their outdated van, Mystery Inc. continues to drive around the United States searching for puzzles to solve. Just to keep things interesting, once in awhile, they might run into an actual monster or demon, but that is generally left for special occasions or weird series starring an annoying kid, Scrappy-Doo, and Vincent Price.

At surface level, the gang seems destined to repeat this loop until the end of time, but tiny alterations can be seen everywhere. For example, What’s New, Scooby-Doo? sees Fred DROP his orange ascot! Clearly, there is nothing Warner Bros. is not willing to cut! Drawn by Isaiah Stephens, the redesign is pretty amazing, although they do not particularly resemble the classic characters. A couple of months ago, Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! concluded its two-season run and Mystery Inc. are lightyears removed from Stephens’ modern redesign. Just to be clear, we easily prefer the artist’s version, but Warner Bros. might disagree.
24 The (Sad) Implication
Presented as a simple “then & now” comparison, this picture flashes forward around fifty decades. In other words, this is what Mystery Incorporated would look like if they aged normally. After all this time, Fred appears to have evolved into Chevy Chase, while Velma and Daphne have aged rather gracefully. Out of the four, Shaggy underwent the biggest physical and personality changes. As the beard is covering Rogers’ smile, his previously joyous expression was transformed into pure sorrow.

At this point, you are probably wondering why this is an incomplete line-up. If they are going to photoshop the human characters, the same courtesy should be extended to the titular canine. Afterall, Shaggy is nothing without his best friend! Unfortunately, there is no chance that Scooby is still solving mysteries with the gang. In the late ’60s, Scoobert was seven years old and the life-expectancy of a Great Dane is around a decade. Even if the latter is meant to be taken in doggy time, Scooby’s days would still be numbered. By the time Shaggy hit his golden ’60s, he would have been living without Scooby for, at the very least, 40 years. Nothing lasts forever and that includes Scooby-Doo!
23 Guys, Something Seems Different…
Based on Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!’s legendary title sequence, Transypoo’s doppelgangers step in for the Mystery Five. Providing context for the situation, the group was researching in the library when a security guard caught them in the act. If that is too mundane, then substitute the guard for a ghost or Scrappy-Doo. Either way, the night is going to end on a low point for Mystery Incorporated. Transypoo’s designs compliment the photo’s spooky atmosphere better than the traditional versions, although these five really do not seem to get any enjoyment out of solving mysteries. Shaggy can barely keep his eyes open and Velma looks like someone that would crawl out of a television screen.
After scouring through hundreds of Scooby-Doo related fan pictures, we cannot help but be impressed by the sheer creativity. Whether aiming for a more horrific or comedic tone, the creator’s passion can be seen in every entry. It is not just about paying tribute to childhood characters that left a lasting impression, but fan-art helps sustain the show’s community after it is pulled from the air. Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! is on the verge of turning fifty years old, yet fans continued to search for exciting new ways to envision Mystery Inc.
22 Older And (Possibly) Wiser
Wow! Where do we even begin to analyze marcosharps’ alternative Mystery Incorporated? There is definitely nothing groovy about this gang! They actually seem like they just walked off the set of an over-the-top gangster flick from the ’70s. With so much to go through, the best option is to give each character a thorough cross-examination.
Scooby is bone-chilling! Going by the pooch’s empty white eyes, this Great Dane has been through a lot. Out of the entire cast, Velma fares the best and is easily the closest to Hanna-Barbera’s original incarnation. Putting aside her “investigative tools,” Dinkley appears to still be herself. Sadly, the same cannot be said for Shaggy. Slumped-shouldered and carrying a used boomstick, Rogers just comes across as a tired shell of a man. Fred is next on the list and Mystery Inc.’s leader has let himself go. Presented as a caricature of gangsters, the dude would not look out of place in a Looney Tunes’ short featuring Mugsy and Bugsy.
Finally, we have Daphne. Physically, she looks nearly identical to the 1969 cartoon, but the similarities stop there. Behaving more like a cheerleader than an active member of the team, Daphne is coasting on her natural beauty. This should go without saying, but marcosharps’ Mystery Incorporated is awesome!
21 Daphne Blake’s Damsel Days Are In The Rear-View Mirror
Quiz Time! Out of Mystery Incorporated’s five members, who do you believe stars in the most unofficial pictures? If the answer was anything other than Velma or Daphne, then let us be the first to welcome you to the internet! For the time being, Velma is going to be pushed to the side in favor of AdamDalyOnline’s rebellious rendition of Daphne Blake. Armed and ready for action, this Daphne is smart enough to be prepared for the worst while exploring a possibly haunted castle or mansion.
Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! was not always sure what to do with Daphne or Fred, so the former ended up serving as the group’s unintentional bait. Nicknamed a damsel-in-distress, years would pass before the sharply-dressed investigator managed to shake off this title. Despite its countless of flaws, including Hanna-Barbera wasting its Vincent Prince, The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo deserves recognition for challenging Daphne’s typical role in the gang. As Fred and Velma were missing-in-action, leadership duties fell to the former damsel and she made the most of the situation. Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island and Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated helped to further remove Blake from her humble beginnings, while 2002’s live-action flick cast a superhero as Daphne.
20 Scooby-Doo, When Did You Get So Cool?
As a preventive measure against any potential fan outrage; we should clarify that, with the exception of Mr. Jones, the classic Mystery Inc. was plenty cool. Rather than attending high-school or whatever, these TEENAGERS traveled across the country and solved mysteries! How many 15-year-olds can claim the same? Also, this is not a case of classifying people in their early 20s as teenagers, as not a single member of Mystery Inc. could legally vote. At a measly 17 years of age, Norville Rogers and Fred Jones lead the pack as the oldest members. Apparently, four different couples agreed to let their unsupervised children head out on a potentially perilous adventure spanning multiple months or, potentially, years!
Luckily, they happened to be a lot more mature and wholesome than other teenagers on the cusp of adulthood, but Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! could have been a widely different beast. Frankly, Netflix could turn the basic premise into a “missing persons” drama and keep the same title! As for this entry’s trendy edition of Mystery Incorporated, it hails from the creative genius of Raune Dano. The artist’s blog is stuffed with similar drawings of other famous fictional characters and it is well-worth checking out!
19 Shaggy And Scooby, What Have They Done To You?!?
Why? Just, why? From their non-stop appetite to their refusal to stand-up for themselves when Fred decides to use them as bait, Shaggy and Scooby are far from the greatest role-models in cartoon history. However, they always maintain a certain level of optimism throughout their many misadventures. Investigating haunted mansions might not be their preferred activity for a rainy afternoon, but the duo regularly strives to discover even the smallest sliver of humor in any given situation.
While they spend an ordinate amount of time running and hiding, by the end of an episode, Scooby and Shaggy manage to face their fears and survive.
Apparently, Nachotoonz wished to try something different with these two. Opting for a slightly more grotesque art style, this Shaggy and Scooby would slip unnoticed into an episode of The Ren & Stimpy Show. Based on his eyes and slobbering mouth, Rogers should seriously consider taking Scooby to a vet. Unfortunately, the dude hardly appears to be in a sound state of mind and probably could use a bit of guidance. While we prefer our Shaggy and Scooby without a side of existential dread, Nachotoonz’ portrait is undoubtedly masterful.
18 A Dash Of Twilight With A Helping Of Scooby-Doo
2019 marks Scooby-Doo’s half-century anniversary. Understandably, the central cast’s personalities have developed quite a bit since their inauguration. While Warner Bros. tries to maintain some continuity, each member of Mystery Inc. has picked up a couple of weird jobs or habits. Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated saw Fred literally becoming obsessed with traps, while 2002’s Scooby-Doo replaced Daphne with Buffy Summers. As Warner Bros. is perfectly fine with fudging the details, the same courtesy should be extended to fans.
In the description for their upload, BleedingHeartworks wrote a short character biography outlining the changes in each member of her modern Scooby gang. Describing Fred as a “Twilight Edward reject,” the group’s ascot-wearing leader traded vans for motorcycles and hails from a rich family. Resembling her source material, BleedingHeartworks’ Daphne is a reporter who tends to take charge during missions. While still book smart and highly intelligent, this time around, Velma is more of an outdoorsy person and loves exploration. Also, she prefers women, which is something certain fans have been waiting to see! For the most part, Shaggy and Scooby survive the transition in one piece, although the former picked up a taste for old video-games. Short of changing Scooby-Doo into a puddle, there is very little that can or should be altered.
17 Jinkies! Dinkley Is On The Case!
Time to talk about Scooby-Doo’s unsung hero! While Fred led the gang from one well-meaning but poorly executed trap to the next, Velma quietly solved the case by piecing together a couple of (conspicuous) clues. Out of the four teenagers, she was the only one who seemed to always has a grasp on the situation. Even when Daphne or Fred stepped up to unmask the villain, it always felt like Velma was just throwing them a bone.
After all, she understood the importance of team morale.
Putting aside a non-official gig in A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, for some reason, the franchise has opted against establishing Velma as an investigator. Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island’s Daphne managed to score a high-profile position at a news channel, but the best Velma could do was open a gimmicky bookshop? We guess there is nothing wrong with that – actually, there is definitely nothing wrong with that – but Velma seemed to genuinely enjoy the thrill of the chase! Also, Detective Dinkley is the perfect name for a hard-boiled cop with a chequered past and a heart of gold! Someone, please, make this happen! KAIRU-2RI’s photo merely serves to make us yearn for more! Does Velma prefer to work alone? Who is that guy behind her? These questions need answers!
16 Elementary, My Dear Scoobert
As a concept, this idea is something worth considering! At times, the franchise is criticized for playing it too safe, but that is not totally fair. Even when the basic formula remains intact, most incarnations implement enough alterations to stand on their own two feet. Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated subverts expectations by weaving an intricate overarching premise culminating in a stunning and shocking conclusion. Be Cool Scooby-Doo! ventures into pure parody territory and regularly pokes fun at the franchise’s tropes, while The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo tried to revitalize the series by adding real ghosts. In a puzzling move, Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue! strived to have not a single redeemable quality.
In spite of Scooby-Doo’s willingness to experiment, Warner Bros. Animation has yet to consider teleporting the gang to another historical era.
Set in 1887, DANGERcomics drops Scooby and Shaggy in Victorian London, which also happens to be home to a little-known detective named Sherlock Holmes. Why is this not a thing? Technically, Sherlock Holmes guest starred in an episode of The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries, but that was just as a ghost. Even if time-travel is too much for the Great Dane, the studio can just say they are the gang’s ancestors.
15 Mystery Incorporated Packing Heat
Oh, everyone should think twice before describing these five as meddling “kids.” Temporarily ignoring Shaggy, Hyde20 found a perfect way to modernize the gang without venturing too far away from the original incarnations. As seen with DC’s recent Scooby Apocalypse comic series, the characters’ dominant personality traits are dictated by the story’s overarching narrative. As Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! refuses to take itself seriously, Mystery Incorporated’s members are closer to caricatures than real people. On the other hand, the much darker Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated allows the teenagers to experience tragedy and learn from their mistakes.
No matter the show, Scrappy-Doo never changes…
With only a stationary picture for reference, a couple of assumptions need to be made about Hyde20’s creation. Going by the group’s chosen accessories, this version of the Scooby gang seems to prefer to take a more aggressive stance on solving mysteries. Set in what looks like a haunted forest, Mystery Inc. might be dealing with tangible monsters rather than old guys in costumes. When facing a real Black Knight ghost, a shotgun trumps a trap every day of the week! Just one little nitpick: why is Shaggy fifty years old? Is he actually part of the gang or just demanding that the meddling kids step off his lawn?
14 A Dream Team (Not Worth Fearing)
Pickador, this is simply overwhelming! We can only consume so much nostalgia before the urge to wear parachute pants begins to take hold. Once that happens, there is no going back! Drafting a couple of iconic characters into his dream team, Pickador envisions these five forming a super mystery-solving team. Frankly, we would feel safer in the hands of Duck Tales’ Huey, Dewey and Louie than this mishmash of idiots.
Starting from the top, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ April O’Neil is a decent enough reporter, but she spends a considerable amount of time acting as a damsel-in-distress. In spite of her spotty track-record, April is a step above most of the other recruits. Johnny Bravo’s Elvis impersonator would struggle to think his way out of a shoebox, while Shaggy needs Scooby to function. With regards to PG RoboCop, everyone knows that Penny is Inspector Gadget’s true hero. Last but far from least, Wally Waldo might be expected to do most of the heavy lifting. Accompanied by his cool dog, Where’s Wally?: The Animated Series saw Martin Handford’s beloved character traveling through time and solving mysteries like a poor man’s Doctor Who.
On the other hand, a team of Leonardo, Velma, Penny, and Wally would be something else! Johnny Bravo could act as the comic relief or the main antagonist.
13 Daphne Is All Out Of Bubblegum
Stuck in the aftermath of a global virus that turned the majority of the world’s population into extras from Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Daphne Blake might not be the hero anyone expected, but she is the hero everyone deserved. Uploaded by RodneyCJacobsen, Blake the Zombie Slayer is an interesting design and, considering Daphne’s track-record with actresses, makes some sense. The concept is pretty simplistic and straight-forward, but there are a couple of nifty touches worth noticing. First things first, how much can Daphne benchpress? Her right arm is so disproportionately MASSIVE, it seems like the woman is on the brink of toppling over.
Is that a collar around Daphne’s neck? Going by the noticeable lack of dog hair, in this alternate reality, Scooby-Doo might have already moved on to the afterlife. Fred could have met with the same faith, as Daphne’s broken heart tattoo hardly seems like a positive sign. In the best case scenario, Fred dumped Daphne and broke her heart, but that seems like too good to be true. Spoiler alert for anyone reading DC’s Scooby Apocalypse, but Fred’s history with end-of-the-world scenarios leaves something to be desired. As Daphne seems to be carrying no Velma or Shaggy memorabilia, they are probably still kicking about.
12 Operation Scooby-Doo
Surprisingly, Scooby-Doo has rarely diverted from the present day. While each incarnation picks up a couple of traits from its respective decade, pretty much none of them attempt to send Mystery Incorporated on a time-traveling adventure. Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase is probably the closest the brand gets to visiting another historical era, but that incident was only a simulation. Even if Warner Bros. Animation is perfectly happy to limit Scooby and the gang to contemporary culture, artists are free to play around with time and space.
With nearly fifty years on the clock, Mystery Inc. could benefit from a change of scenery.
Created and uploaded by DANGERcomics, the author picked 1945 as the ideal year for Hanna-Barbera’s beloved heroes. We do not want to take anything away from the Scooby gang, as they are pretty courageous for a bunch of teenagers, but dropping them in a war zone might be a step too far. Also, what is a “Special Investigations Unit?” Are the allies being bombarded by an army of ghostly troops? Otherwise, there might be better people qualified for the job. Okay, that is enough nitpicking for one day; when it comes to the picture itself, DANGERcomics embellished just enough details to reflect the gang’s new mission.
11 Okay, No More Jokes At Fred’s Expense…
AdamDalyOnline is at it again! This time around, Fred Jones is the one receiving a much-needed makeover. In the franchise’s early days, Daphne and Fred seemed to exist just because the Mystery Five slips off the tongue a lot smoother than the Mystery Three. On paper, Fred served a clear-cut role as the team’s leader. Handsome and fond of ascots, the dude always took charge and decided when the gang would take on a mystery. As the resident “man with a plan,” Fred needed to play an active role in the mystery-solving process and always designed the traps.
Yet, Fred was so BORING!
It is genuinely mindboggling how someone with so much responsibility could lack even the slightest trace of a personality! At best, Jones was a plot device used to bookend the investigations; at worst, Mystery Inc. was saddled with an incompetent leader who seemed to actively sabotage their missions! Eventually, Fred improved a bit and developed into one of the funniest characters, but that hardly excuses the decades of pure nothingness that preceded his transformation. If nothing else, AdamDalyOnline’s Fred appears to have learned a lesson or two from the gang’s many adventures and grew somewhat of an identity.
10 Please, Someone, Give That Poor Dog A Scooby Snack!
Okay, this brings up a good point; how do Scooby and Shaggy maintain their figure? With the exception of an occasional sprint, they hardly seem like the working out type, yet they never gain a single pound. The only exception being a running gag that sees the duo suddenly gain around a 100 pounds after eating a storage room worth of cheese. By the very next scene, they would have already burned away any excess fat and returned to their original shapes. How are these two not under medical observation? With lightning-fast metabolisms, Scooby and Shaggy would need to constantly eat to avoid disappearing off the face of the planet. Transypoo’s group photo is the result of Scooby missing breakfast!
The artist’s comic book aesthetic adds a new dimension to the line-up. Scooby-Doo’s heroes look slightly worse for wear.
With Velma seeming like she yearns to be swallowed up by the Earth. Uploaded in 2007, Transypoo’s alternative Mystery Incorporated definitely feel like products of the previous decade, especially when it comes to Shaggy’s redesign. In the series’ near 50-year run, when has Rogers’ even contemplated added an accessory to his look? Even Daphne would say that a chain and a necklace is slightly much.
9 Velma Transfers To Lawndale High School
Daria’s Daria perfected the art of cynically judging society from behind a lofty wall constructed out of painful truths and illuminated by the harsh light of reality. MTV’s animated series was hardly the first to center around an unpopular high schooler, but Glenn Eichler and Susie Lewis Lynn’s cartoon felt oddly grounded and empowering. Daria was not driven by a desire to climb the social ladder or fit in with the status quo, rather she refused to change her ways just to make things easier for those around her.
Never light yourself on fire to keep someone else warm.
Whether intentional or not, Velma was somewhat of a precursor to Daria. While Warner Bros. Animation tried quenching any rumors by hinting at a relationship between Shaggy and Dinkley, the super sleuth continues to serve as a role model for teenage girls with progressive preferences. With Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, things seemed to go full-circle, as the cartoon dialed Velma’s cynicism to the max. We have no clue whether LOBrien was picturing Daria when she drew her version of Velma, but there are more than a couple of similarities between the designs of the characters. Well, there are worse sources of inspirations out there.
8 The Mysterious Suspects
Albeit this article hardly lacks for complete line-ups of Mystery Incorporated, the amount of variety and creativity is something to behold. Be it an art style or a calling card, every artist adds a little bit of themselves into their paintings. Obviously, TonyForever is far from an exception and elected to take the gang in a more mature direction. The upload’s description mentions this creation was inspired by the Scooby gang’s random Family Guy cameos. Appearing in a slew of different episodes, surprisingly, Seth MacFarlane never really tries to do much with this parody. The joke just seems to be that Mystery Inc. exists in this world and that is it. In comparison with some of Family Guy’s worst ideas, this running gag seems relatively harmless.
On the other hand, The Venture Bros. took the Scooby gang and twisted them into a completely haunting caricature! Renamed as the Groovy Gang and sharing more in common with the monsters than the detectives, Doc Hammer’s animated series made the most of its Scooby-Doo. In this version, the team consists of amateur detectives with a loose grasp on reality. While the Groovy Gang’s episode is a riot, it will change the way viewers see Mystery Incorporated.
7 The Scooby-Doo
Here is a little brain-teaser; how is it possible that a big Hollywood Studio cannot figure out a way to adapt Scooby-Doo without making the eponymous dog resemble a nightmarish abomination? 2002’s self-titled movie opted to CGI the Great Dane into the flick, but the quality was nowhere near convincing enough to make it work. If it was not for Matthew Lillard’s spot-on depiction of Shaggy, Scooby-Doo would have barely shared any similarities with the cartoon. Despite having the budget of a shoestring, the made-for-television prequel improved considerably over its predecessors, but that is precious little praise. If only there was a real-life equivalent of Scooby-Doo! Alas, Great Danes are just fictional creatures… kidding.
That brings us to SplitEquinox’s pencil drawing of the beloved canine. Hollywood take note, this is what a realistic Scooby-Doo should look like! As we pride ourselves on being fair; yes, a stationary picture is much easier to draw than an animated dog, but SplitEquinox probably does not have access to the same resources as Warner Bros. Pictures. While the original might occasionally spout a line of dialogue, Scooby mostly acts like a normal dog who just happens to exist in a cartoon world. He is not Roger Rabbit.
