Sex Education might be the best teen show on Netflix today, and that’s saying something. Netflix has an ever-growing collection of fresh movies and shows that feature teens and their modern-day concerns; from bullying, to body image, to sexuality, to mental health, and beyond.

Sex Education touches on pretty much all of it, and in a way that is thorough and varied. The show deals with a plethora of teen conflicts and revelations, and all by way of exploring storylines related to teens from diverse backgrounds. It’s for these reasons and more that fans love the show, and it is because of this strong love that the ending to season two was so divisive.

10 Great: Hope For Isaac

Now, many fans were none too pleased with Isaac’s actions at the end of season two, but for anybody who loves the character, the ending actually provided a semblance of hope and excitement.

Isaac has had a rough life, and it’s obvious that meeting someone who clicks with as well as he does with Maeve is a rarity. The end means that Maeve my be turned away from Otis and therefore could be more focused on Isaac, who could use the friendship.

9 Not Great: Introduces Dishonesty Into Maeve And Isaac’s Friendship

Up until now, Maeve has spent time with Isaac because she wants to. Maeve doesn’t waste her time on anybody, so her choice to befriend Isaac is one that doesn’t come lightly.

Isaac has been a great friend to her, but he risks altering their relationship by messing with her phone and therefore stepping into her personal life in a way that he was not invited to do.

8 Great: Left A Cliffhanger For Season 3

Regardless of what one personally thinks about Isaac’s decision at the end of the season, the fact remains that it was a clever move on the part of the writers.

Such a risky choice on the part of Isaac, a new character in the show who fans were just getting used to, makes for a big reaction and leaves fans hungry for more. Many await season three in great anticipation.

7 Not Great: Incites Dread

Isaac’s actions, if Maeve ends up finding out (which, inevitably, she will) are likely to cause a big conflict in Maeve and Isaac’s friendship, if it doesn’t break it up completely.

Their relationship was one of the best parts of season two and possibly one of the best dynamics written in the whole show so far, and it incites a feeling of dread to think that it might come to an end or result in his character leaving the show.

6 Great: He Was Protecting Her

It’s a completely fair argument to say that Isaac’s actions were an invasion of privacy as well as a betrayal of Maeve’s trust. But one would be remiss to overlook where his intentions were coming from.

Isaac is used people’s abusive behavior, and he sees abusive behavior in Otis. He thinks he is protecting Maeve by taking away something that would cause her further pain.

5 Not Great: Isaac Assumed

One of Isaac’s flaws is that he can be cocky. Growing up disabled caused him to compensate for his shortcomings by being very clever, funny, and confident.

These qualities do him well, but they also mean that he can at times be arrogant and assume that he knows best. Deleting Maeve’s message may have been a result of such an assumption.

4 Great: Otis Saw His Flaws

The end of the season mostly gets attention regarding the controversial aspect of Isaac’s decision to delete Otis’ message to Maeve, but what doesn’t get discussed as much is what caused Otis to call Maeve in the first place.

Otis has been obnoxious, selfish, and indulgent, and majorly undeserving of Maeve’s friendship. But the end of the season shows Otis recognizing that he doesn’t want to be this person, and making an effort to set out on a new path. It bodes well for his character in the next season.

3 Not Great: Otis Jumping Into Love

The flipside of Otis reaching out to Maeve in an effort to start anew is that he is getting ahead of himself. He only just had the talk with his father which made him realize why it is that he has trouble with his personality, and that he wants to aim to be more mindful and have healthier behaviors.

Such a revelation doesn’t mean that he’s now sorted out, and it would be wise for him to try and be a good friend again, to himself and others, before vaulting himself into Maeve’s life again.

2 Great: Ola And Lily

Ola and Lily are yet another queer couple who find happiness together by the end of season two. Ola is similar to Eric in that she found herself in a relationship where she felt decently happy, and so thought that she should stay in it.

Both discovered that they deserved more than what they had, and ended up finding it. Ola and Lily are particularly unique characters, and their union ends the season on a note that calls for people to embrace whatever kind of weird they happen to be.

1 Not Great: Maeve May Regress

Isaac’s finale behavior will likely end in trouble for him, but more than this it could cause Maeve to revert back to who she was before she met Isaac. She was a more closed-up person, unwilling to trust people, and determined to be negative about life.

Isaac helped Maeve to take herself less seriously and was on his way to becoming one of her closest confidantes. If she is at odds with him, this would mean that she loses yet another person who she had learned to be vulnerable with.
