9 Aimee & Steve’s Commitment Animal

After Aimee and Steve go through a rough patch, they adopt a goat as a commitment animal to strengthen their relationship. While the idea of a commitment animal is rather sweet, their choice of a goat is downright hilarious. Throughout the season, the goat gets into all kinds of trouble, proving itself to be one of the strongest comedic plot points of the season.

In a series, that deals with some heavy topics, and in a season where the fate of many of the students’ relationships is uncertain, a goat chewing on the pages of a porno magazine is a great way to loosen the tension.

8 Cal’s Introduction

With the show’s extremely woke perspective on sexuality and identity, it wasn’t completely surprising when Cal, a non-binary student, joined the cast of characters. However, this not does mean their introduction wasn’t important or exciting. Hollywood has yet to reach a level of complete inclusivity, so when there is a significant storyline involving a non-binary character in a mainstream television show, it’s a big deal.

Cal’s most prominent storylines are their budding relationship with Jackson and their clashing views with the headteacher. They are unapologetically themselves and act as a voice for the other unheard queer characters at the school.

7 Hope’s Struggle With Infertility

Hope, one of the several characters introduced in season 3, is the new headteacher at Moordale Secondary whose mission is to repair Moordale’s reputation that was tarnished after being labeled the “Sex School.” Although she makes a strong positive impression on the students during the first assembly of the term, her conservative views and practices soon turn the students and the audience against her.

While she is built up to be the evil protagonist who must be taken down, her humanity is revealed when she runs into Jean at the hospital. Upon revealing that she has been struggling with fertility treatments, Hope becomes more relatable, and gains the sympathy of the audience.

6 Adam & Rahim’s Friendship

Although it was surprising that Adam and Eric became a couple, it was even more surprising that Adam and Rahim became friends, given their history as competitors for Eric’s affection. Their friendship establishes a high level of maturity and depicts this certain dynamic in a way that is rarely shown on screen.

A particular scene that stands out between these two characters is when Adam takes the fall for Rahim throwing a sock of his own feces out of the bus window while on a school trip in France. This is the moment where Adam first performs an act of kindness towards Rahim, and where their friendship begins. It’s a hilarious, grotesque, and heart-warming scene.

5 Otis & Maeve’s Kiss

Otis and Maeve’s will they/won’t they storyline is the central romantic plot point of the entire series. From the moment they met, audiences began to wonder if Otis and Maeve would get together. The probability of a romantic future strengthened as their working relationship and friendship developed while running the sex clinic.

After two cliff-hanger season finales where they separately revealed their feelings for one another, season 3 finally has Otis and Maeve acting with their hearts. The build-up to their kiss is almost unbearable for the audience because of all the drama that has led up to this moment. Although the kiss is very satisfying, it isn’t necessarily game-changing.

4 The Double Date

Otis and Ruby’s relationship is questioned by many of the characters in the show, for the two are complete opposites. Equally surprising is Eric’s relationship with Adam, his former bully. Bringing the two couples together seems like a recipe for disaster. In the hopes of a pleasant outing, Otis reminds the judgmental Ruby to be nice, while Eric coaches the shy Adam on how to carry a conversation.

During their date, however, Otis and Eric discover that their unlikely partners get along better than they were expecting. Ruby and Adam discover that they both watch Keeping Up With The Kardashians, which opens the potential for them to be friends.

3 Otis, Maeve, And Issac’s Love Triangle

The only romantic plotline that exceeds the will they/won’t they storyline in terms of drama is the good, old-fashioned, love triangle. It is the catalyst for many arguments between viewers and can often lead to the most dramatic moments in the story.

When Issac makes his first appearance in season 2, it’s impossible to hate him. Issac has charm, wit, and great chemistry with Maeve. When he deletes Otis’s message from Maeve’s phone at the end of the season, the audience’s views on him alter drastically. However, because Maeve is unaware of his actions, she continues to consider moving on from Otis and dating Issac.

2 Adam Training Madame For The Dog Show

Adam is one of the most interesting characters in Sex Education, for he is the character with the strongest development. While he started the show as a bully, his softer side is revealed as he becomes more comfortable with his sexuality and begins dating Eric.

Finding the advertisement for the dog show acts as another turning point for Adam. Training his beloved pet gives Adam something to focus on, and he soon finds that he is good at it. It is incredibly enjoyable to watch Adam, a man with anger issues, find love for this incredibly wholesome activity. While romantic relationships may come and go, there is no stronger relationship than that between a man and his dog.

1 Aimee Going To Therapy

At the center of Sex Education is its realistic and diverse depictions of sex, as well as its inclusion and sensitive execution of storylines that deal with tough situations. Aimee’s story arc involving her therapy sessions with Jean following her sexual assault is the most gripping component of the season. It shows a more vulnerable side of Aimee and priorities the shaming of victim-blaming.

On a lighter note, Aimee’s visits to Jean’s office also lead her to discover the wide variety of vagina shapes that exist in nature. To promote the diverse range of vagina shapes, she celebrates in the best way she can, by baking vulva cupcakes.
