Shahs of Sunset’s Mike Shouhed shocked the public and his castmates alike when he announced his secret engagement to Paulina Ben-Cohen at the show’s season 9 reunion special. The 42-year-old reality star started dating the mother of two in 2019. Mike was previously married to Jessica Parido but got divorced eight months after their nuptials due to cheating allegations at Mike’s expense.
Speaking of cheating, Mike and Paulina’s relationship became the center of attention this season when Paulina caught Mike s*xting other women. After stumbling upon the NSFW texts towards the beginning of filming, Paulina made a savage move by sending the messages to Mike’s co-stars so they’d discuss his behavior on camera. After several episodes of denials and lies, Mike finally came clean and admitted that not only were the texts real, but he now realizes he has an addiction to outside attention that he needs to work on with a professional.
During Part 1 of the Shahs of Sunset Reunion Special, Paulina joined host Andy Cohen, and the rest of the Bravo cast to convince the world that despite all of the drama this season, she actually has a beautiful relationship with Mike. After a lot of pushback from the cast, met with even more cheating allegations, Mike took a moment to share a major update for the very first time. “I want to share something with you guys,” Mike said, holding up Paulina’s hand. “We’re engaged, and we wanted to share that with everybody today.” A few cast members vocalized some reserved congratulations, while others’ facial expressions showed their lack of approval since they just spent months engulfed in the negativity of this relationship. “I actually asked her son his permission to marry his mommy, and I gave him the ring and we were in Hawaii, and I planned with the concierge where the most beautiful part of the beach was gonna be,” Mike added, noting her son actually gave the proposal speech to his mom. Paulina continued to tell the group that the moment was “romantic” and “so cute.”

Now that wedding planning has begun, the couple also confirmed they don’t have any plans for a prenup, which many cast members tried fighting her on. “I would not marry someone if I felt the need that I need to protect myself,” Paulina said in defense. “In my eyes, that’s not a marriage. Then I’ll just date someone.” The engagement wasn’t the only major milestone the couple took since the cameras stopped rolling. Paulina and Mike also purchased a home in the “burbs” together with Paulina’s kids.
Though Mike’s announcement was seamless, it was a bit heartbreaking to see how shocked and surprised his Shahs of Sunset castmates and best friends were upon hearing the news. On Mike’s part, the season ended with the reality star promising to break down his walls and share more with his castmates, and since getting engaged is a major life event, it was disappointing to learn that everyone involved in the show found out about his engagement at the same time as viewers. On the cast’s part, they should be happy for Mike and Paulina and be celebrating his love regardless of their personal opinions. Those opinions can be discussed and sorted out at a later and more private time. Here’s to hoping Mike stays faithful and the couple lives a happy life together.
