Sinnoh Is the PERFECT Setting for Pokémon Legends Arceus

During the recent Pokémon 25th-anniversary special, Pokémon Legends: Arceus was announced alongside official remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. This means fans can expect two new games all focused around the Sinnoh region. However, the Diamond and Pearl remakes and Legends differ in how they depict the region.

Sinnoh is probably the Pokémon region with the oldest lore behind it, maybe second to Johto. Sinnoh explores the origins of the Pokémon world as a whole by presenting players with the Sinnoh Creation Myth, detailing how the legendary Pokémon Arceus, Dialga and Palkia created existence. This historical importance makes the Sinnoh region one of the best regions to set a Pokémon game in the past.

Sinnoh Is the PERFECT Setting for Pokémon Legends Arceus

Judging by Legends’ trailer, it seems players can expect the Pokémon they see in the Sinnoh region to be very different from the ones from previous games. The starters pull Pokémon from across the Generations, so it stands to reason that the kinds of Pokémon in the Sinnoh region may have changed drastically over time. Seeing how a region with so much lore and history evolved through time is a great way to expand on the Pokémon universe’s lore.

Legends’ starting Pokémon and the art style shown in the trailer indicate that this is an older version of the Sinnoh region and is based heavily on feudal Japan, which is fairly interesting when the ancient-Sinnoh lore introduced in Diamond and Pearl is considered. Things like the statue of both Dialga and Palkia in Eterna City and the Celestic Town ruins don’t quite seem to match up with that kind of time period, though it’s fair to assume that players will be able to see these landmarks as they were in Sinnoh’s past.

Seeing the lore players were told about in previous games potentially play out probably one of the coolest implications that ancient Sinnoh has as a setting. Sinnoh being the source of the Pokémon world’s creation also leads to the appearance of the game’s creation trio and, more importantly, Arceus. Arceus is often considered the first Pokémon ever and is responsible for the creation of all other Pokémon, but has never actually been catchable in a Pokémon game.

There’s no better game for Arceus to finally make its catchable debut in than a game that’s seemingly all about the region where the Pokémon universe was created. Encountering Arceus in this kind of ancient setting should end up being an amazing moment for long-time fans of the series, especially given the new Pokémon capture mechanics in Legends. Arceus also appearing in the game’s title is big news since it may indicate the legendary Pokémon having a significant role in the game’s plot.

Sinnoh’s the perfect setting for a game focused on the past of the Pokémon world due to how interconnected it is with that era. Sinnoh’s creation myth is something that more players want to see explored as there’s a lot of untouched lore that could easily be expanded upon. Pokémon Legends: Arceus is shaping up to be a great exploration into the lore of the Pokémon series through its more history-rich world.
