Farfetch’d endured a long and terrible run as one of the worst Pokémon in the Pokémon video game series, but Pokémon Sword & Shield have finally given Farfetch’d a powerful evolution that has the potential to turn one of worst items in the series into one of the best.
There has always been love for the Farfetch’d line from the Pokémon fanbase, as there is something innately silly about a duck using a leek like a sword. The problem was that Farfetch’d had dreadful stats and was completely outpaced by most of the other Normal/Flying-type Pokémon in the series. Pokémon Gold & Silver tried to throw Farfetch’d a bone with the rare Leek held-item (formerly known as the Stick), which increases its chances of scoring a critical hit. Farfetch’d was the only Pokémon that could equip the Leek, but even that wasn’t enough to make up for its lack of power.
Pokémon Sword & Shield have introduced a Galarian version of Farfetch’d that is more warlike than the original version of the Pokémon. If a Galarian Farfetch’d scores three critical hits in the same battle, then it will evolve into a mighty Sirfetch’d, which is already making waves as one of the best Pokémon in Pokémon Sword & Shield, even though its competitive viability has yet to be determined.
The Leek item that went underutilized in the previous Pokémon games has now become a huge deal in Pokémon Sword & Shield, as Sirfetch’d can also equip the item. A Sirfetch’d with a Leek has a much higher chance of scoring a critical hit, making its already potent offensive capabilities even scarier. Sirfetch’d is a Pokémon with a devastating array of physical attacks, including the unique Meteor Assault move, and it has a chance of dealing an incredible amount of damage in a single hit with its criticals, which it now has a much higher chance of performing.
Farfetch’d was looked down upon for decades due to its poor stats, but the bird Pokémon’s time has finally come. DUX might have been one of the most disappointing Pokémon in Pokémon Red & Blue, but the Galar region has a veritable army of noble duck warriors who fight on in its memory.
