The popular British TV series Skins became a worldwide sensation when it first premiered. Known for its unfiltered portrayal of sex, drugs, and disaffected teenage youth, Skins sets the tone for gritty coming-of-age stories, differing from the typical sugar-coated narratives often seen in this genre.

The character-centric episodes offer a fitting format to match each Skins Gen 2 character to their zodiac signs. From headstrong characters like Katie to her quieter twin sister Emily, brave and reckless Cook to thoughtful and sensitive Freddie, here are these Skins characters’ zodiac signs.

Gritty and raw, the show always portrays the best and the worst of its teen characters – often their worst. Gen 2 is no different, and since the conclusion of the series, this particular group of characters had stood out as the fan favorite. Effy Stonem has become something of a mascot for the series, emblematic of the teens’ tumultuous adolescence. Effy isn’t the only captivating character from Skins Gen 2, though, and each is unique enough to be assigned their own zodiac sign.

12 Kaite Fitch – Aries

Katie Fitch (Megan Prescott), Emily’s identical twin, struggles with identity issues while always trying to outshine her sister. In this way, Katie fits the bill of a typical Aries: large and in charge, not afraid to be the leader, and remarkably selfish. Aries, the Ram, is the first sign of the zodiac, and oftentimes has trouble with the adage, “try walking a mile in their shoes.”

While Katie’s brave spirit and can-do approach are admirable, her judgmental attitude and bossy nature cause this Aries to be disliked by many of her peers. Aries always wants to be in control and thrives off power more than its astrological counterparts. In season 4 of Skins, Katie finds out she’s gone through premature menopause and has a change in attitude and finally realizes how much of a controlling person she is.

11 Freddie McClair – Taurus

Freddie McLair (Luke Pasqualino) is considered the level-headed, more pragmatic member of his friend group, and typically stays out of the spotlight, unlike his Leo friend Cook. Like a stereotypical Taurus, Freddie can also be a bit lazy and let things happen, rather than get involved. Freddie is the disaffected stoner who can’t be bothered to care much about anything, other than Effy.

Effy is a Scorpio, the opposing sign to Taurus. Opposites attract, and there’s something about Effy’s mysterious and devious nature that draws safe and stable Freddie towards her. Tauruses are also very stubborn and believe they’re always right, much like the other Earth signs: Capricorn and Virgo.

10 Pandora Moon – Gemini

Pandora Moon, portrayed by Lisa Blackwell, has a dual personality, which sees her both as naive and innocent, and sensual and over-the-top. Gemini, the ruler of the communication planet Mercury, love to talk – just like Pandora. This Air sign, represented by the Twins, is often depicted as having a split personality and being able to switch moods in an instant.

Pandora seems to be confused with what she wants, changing her mind with every new person she meets, romantically and platonically. Gemini is also a mutable sign, which explains Pandora’s ability to shift with the current.

9 Anthea Stonem – Cancer

Portrayed by Morwenna Banks, Anthea Stonem, mother of Effy and Gen 1 Skins character Tony, is featured throughout the first four seasons of the series, quite often in a state of crisis. Cancer, the Crab, ruler of the Moon, is usually very emotional, intuitive, and motherly, which perfectly describes Anthea.

Anthea’s character goes down a dark spiral when she’s seen relying on pills. Where previously Anthea took care of Effy and Tony at their worst, Effy now has to step into the parental figure role, but things switch once again in season four when Anthea supports Effy after her suicide attempt.

8 James Cook – Leo

Cook (Jack O’Connell) is always the life of the party, always comfortable being the center of attention, much like the zodiac sign Leo, which is represented by the regal, all-encompassing Lion. Leos are very affectionate, often sexually driven, and undeniably charming – all qualities that Cook possesses.

Cook’s development takes a dark turn early on, from drifting away from his two best friends because of their shared affection for Effy to being imprisoned after a bloody fight when taking his anger out on a stranger. Like many Leos, Cook sometimes lets his passion and anger get the better of him.

7 Thomas Tomone – Virgo

Thomas Tomone (Merveille Lukeba) is an immigrant from the Congo who falls in love with Pandora. Disciplined, confident, and grounded, Thomas displays Virgo’s trademark qualities. Virgo can be stubborn and overly critical, which is true of Thomas when expressing his frustrations towards Pandora.

Thomas is a perfectionist, always pursuing challenges for his running career, which eventually lands him an athletic scholarship at Harvard University. Also like a Virgo, he gives in to temptation when he sleeps with a member of his church, breaking Pandora’s heart. Although they’re represented by the Virgin, Virgos have a deeply dark side to their character.

6 Karen McClair – Libra

Freddie’s older sister Karen (Klariza Clayton) will stop at nothing to become a famous singer and enjoys being in the spotlight. Libras, ruled by the Scales, love order and balance and naturally exude charm and grace.

Sometimes perceived as vapid, Libras often have their head in the clouds, romanticizing idealistic situations. Karen pursues a career as a hairdresser in season four, which makes sense for Venus-ruling Libra, naturally inclined towards aesthetics, beauty, and wellness.

5 Effy Stonem – Scorpio

In the first generation of Skins, Effy is dark, silent, mysterious – all traits of a typical Scorpio. The symbol of death, Scorpio tends to expel an elusive yet passion-driven sense of self, which sums up Effy.

Her ominous journey continues when she becomes a key Gen 2 character. Effy attempts suicide and becomes trapped under the influence of her crooked doctor, who eventually kills Freddie. Along with death, Scorpio also symbolizes rebirth, a cycle Effy experiences several times during seasons 3 and 4. Scorpio is a Fixed Water sign, which can mean fluctuating emotions clash with stubborn morals.

4 Johnny White – Sagittarius

Johnny White (Mackenzie Crook) is a gangster who becomes Cook’s enemy in season 3. The crooked drug lord exemplifies some traits of a Sagittarius, the sign of travel and constant movement. Sagittarius is a Fire sign, excited by spontaneity and being adventurous, traits Johnny exhibits.

Thomas ends up humiliating Johnny when he tries showing him up in a pepper-eating contest; Johnny nearly dies while Thomas seems unaffected, which ultimately leads Johnny to leave the Gen 2 characters alone.

3 Naomi Campbell – Capricorn

Described as passionate, political, and principled, Capricorns sometimes bite off more than they can chew. Naomi Campbell (Lily Loveless) often over-burdens herself, whether intentionally or not. Capricorns are known for their hard work, dedication, and affinity towards politics, which aligns with Naomi’s campaign for Student President.

Naomi is also turned off from the communal home space she lives in with her mom, not buying into her “hippie ideals”, which also fits the Capricorn archetype since the Sea-Goat prefers traditional accommodation and a regimented home life.

2 J.J. Jones – Aquarius

J.J. Jones (Ollie Barbieri) is a typical introverted Aquarius, highly intelligent but misunderstood by the masses. He’s a savant in math and sciences and performs extraordinary magic tricks. Aquarius may be the Water Bearer but is actually an Air sign. They often feel detached because they view things from a unique perspective and like to question authority, much like the curious and inquisitive J.J.

In season 4, J.J. meets single mother Lara, and the pair quickly forms a strong connection. Their bond encourages J.J. to question whether or not he needs to be so heavily medicated for his Aspergers, and a true Aquarius would do the same.

1 Emily Fitch – Pisces

Emily Fitch (Kathryn Prescott) is the more bashful twin. She’s more in tune with her emotions, and definitely more sensitive than her sister. Pisces, represented by two fish swimming in opposite directions, often struggle with being overly emotional. Ruler of Neptune, Pisces hav a very dreamy, head-in-the-clouds quality about them, like Emily.

Pisces are the last sign of the zodiac and sometimes feel like they’ve been put on the back-burner. Even though they’re twins, Emily is very different from her sister, but perhaps she was born in the last minutes of the Pisces window, before Katie’s birth as an Aries.
