Times may be tough now in Skyrim after a thief tried to rob the player while they were in werewolf form. At least they showed they had some guts.

The old saying “fortune favors the bold” does not apply to one particular thief from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim after they tried and failed to rob a player that was in werewolf form. Bethesda’s wildly successful open-world title is celebrating its 10-year anniversary and will mark the occasion in November with the upcoming Skyrim Anniversary Edition priced at $50.

Even without the vast collection of mods that have added to the game’s longevity, Skyrim is a vast title with hundreds of hours of varying content. From multiple grand storylines to unique solitary moments, Bethesda’s title has a habit of surprising even the most seasoned veterans thanks largely to how sometimes the game’s engine generates the most bizarre random encounters. One of the most basic that can be found throughout Skyrim is when the player comes across a thief as they venture across the world. While players are given options to try and avoid a conflict, the appearance of a Skyrim thief usually results in a fight as they do not back down easily.

Reddit user MajorOfCrime recently showcased just how foolishly brave Skyrim’s thieves can be when one tried to mug them whilst the player was in werewolf form. MajorOfCrime was insistent on avoiding the fight, but the thief would not have it and tried to mug the massive cursed canine anyway. Things did not go well for the would-be mugger after that, though the Reddit user did admit the thief had guts. Had they instead been up against their own adopted children in Skyrim, things might have gone worse for the player.

Randomness is a key ingredient to any memorable moment found in the 10-year-old title, even one as typical as an unnamed thief encounter. Throughout the years, many have experienced some form of “wrong place, wrong time” in Skyrim whether it be witnessing the demise of a poor NPC or players themselves getting caught in some unfortunate predicament that may involve a dragon, giant, or both.

While there are many games that stand the test of time, there are few that sit in the same category as Skyrim. There are so many aspects of not just the game, but also the fan community surrounding it that have become standards across the medium. Few other titles have a modding community that is simultaneously so large and diverse with the quality content it puts out. Even the Skyrim memes still live on all these years later. The fandom has plenty of content to hold itself over until The Elder Scrolls 6 finally launches in a few years.
