Sonic Forces was added as one of March’s PS Plus free games this week, allowing fans of the Sonic the Hedgehog live-action movie to get a taste of some Sonic gameplay. The newest of the Sonic base games, Sonic Forces introduces new mechanics that include players being able to create their own character and the use of powerful gadgets. Sonic Forces includes both modern Sonic type levels, which involve fast-paced free running, and classic Sonic type levels, which involve 2D platforming, giving new players to the franchise a chance to experience both.
Since its first appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Super Sonic has become an essential transformation of Sonic that has continued to make its way into Sonic games both new and old. Originally players had to collect all seven of the Chaos Emeralds to transform Sonic into Super Sonic, but it’s a little different in Sonic Forces. With the possibility of players playing this game for the very first time or experienced players deciding to give the game a second run-through because of the movie, this guide is dedicated to showing players how to play as Super Sonic in Sonic Forces.
How To Unlock Super Sonic in Sonic Forces
The first step to playing as Super Sonic in Sonic Forces is to download the free Super Sonic DLC in the marketplace of the console the player is using. Navigate to the Sonic Forces page and there will be a free add-on listed as Super Sonic DLC. After the download is completed, the player only has to load up the game for the ability to use Super Sonic to be unlocked. The game will notify the player when pulling up the world map that they are now able to select Super Sonic as playable on stages.
In order to transform into Super Sonic, the player will need to collect 50 coins on the stage. Once the player has collected 50 coins, Sonic will use the power of the Chaos Emeralds to transform into Super Sonic, gaining infinite boost and invincibility. After transforming into Super Sonic, the player’s rings will slowly drain away and Super Sonic will convert back to Sonic if the player runs of rings. Keep in mind that the uses of Super Sonic will not record the rank and the best time of the run, seeing as how much easier it is.
